Zelda 2Zelda 1
The first one ever played: Phantasy Star.Awesome! :)
Guys, Zelda is an action adventure game, not an RPG.
Advanced Dungeons & Dragons, 2eI got that compilation pack that had 6 CDs, featuring 6 different AD&D 2nd Ed. games. It had Dark Sun in it, I absolutely loved that game. I liked D&D before, but Dark Sun gave me a whole new appreciation for the genre.
After reading this topic I'm wondering when the "RPGs must have character stats!" seperation to adventure games was made.well it was primarily meant to be adventure with action. most rpgs you dont control your character. also, you dont really level up in Zelda except 2 (which could be called an RPG i guess), you just get equipment and heart containers.
Not an RPG
What Is it thanaction adventure
action adventure
Guys, Zelda is an action adventure game, not an RPG.Guy, Zelda is an Action RPG.
Guy, Zelda is an Action RPG.Zelda 1 took after Adventure, the 2600 game that combined the action and adventure genres. Action being the genre in which you fight/avoid stuff in real time, and adventure being the genre all about finding items to get past obstacles.
The only exception, here, is if you strictly use the definition Gary Gygax (TSR's D&D co-creator) used for tabletop Role-Playing Games, which are group-based, cooperative, and face-to-face live.
"If you are not role-playing as a character to another person [in the same game], who are you role-playing to?"
It also means you also accept that, to-date [as of 2024], there are no video game RPGs--only simulations.
Guy, Zelda is an Action RPG.nope
Culture brain also made another action jrpg on the NES called little ninja brothers that was a more light-hearted game, but its the very first jrpg I remember playing that supported 2 players from start to end.The prequel to this game is on Nintendo Switch but I've been waiting for this one to show up and no dice
The prequel to this game is on Nintendo Switch but I've been waiting for this one to show up and no diceAh yeah kung fu heroes. Fun enough game, but yeah they def improved on that series with those little ninja bros games. Or I guess as they call'em in japan super chinese, lol.
Super Mario RPG. Didn't even know what an RPG was at the time, just thought it was some weird subtitle. This lol
Destiny of an EmperorSee out the mods that focus on the other warlords. Wu is real hard. They put tigers right out side the starting town. You have to grind and go back in the town multiple times to get strong enough to head to the next area. I got to the place where you have to use explosives but forgot where to find it. I gave that one up. The original I played multiple times
Dragon Warrior for the NES is what got me in, Final Fantasy hooked me, FFVI/Chrono Trigger is what made me love the genre, and X-2 is where I mostly checked out.I sort of had that identical experience. Same games. Then interest started to fall off around FFX.
The fact that both RPGs and action adventures have things like NPCs and upgradeable stats is largely by coincidence.Do you know what the first Japanese console RPG was to officially use the term "RPG" in its self-descriptions (ads, copy, and instructions)? The answer might surprise you.
