As far as anime Dad's go, Goku is pretty high tier. Worst he's done is throw his son in to fights, which is very mild for the atrocities anime fathers commit.
Also I'll second the notion that Piccolo is the cool uncle. He's the reliable relative that's not super social but will literally always back you up when it comes down to it
