Because FF games have increasingly been criticized by traditional fans as drifting away from turn-based combat, and XVI is the furthest away from having traditional RPG elements.
I think it's a very good game, but most of the standard role-playing mechanics - like leveling and equipment - are superficial at best.
Likely the same sorts of people who claim Final Fantasy XI and XIV aren't REAL Final Fantasy games.
