Playing Far Cry 5, the capturing mechanic is really really bad.

This being Ubisoft I wouldn't be surprised if it's been recycled in every Far Cry game before this, but basically -

When the game wants to inject some plot progression on you, one of the big bads will send out a hunting party to capture you. You can't get away from them, so you're kidnapped and forced into this cutscene. It will interrupt basically anything you're doing, even if you're halfway through a mission. And after watching a very long cutscene and playing some forced fever dream mission you're then dumped out on the other side of the map.

This isn't even the part that really annoys me though. What annoys me is how absurd the in-universe explanation for this has to be to make sense. You're left knowing that any of the villains of the game can kidnap you at any point and there's nothing you can do about it, and the only reason you ever survive it is because they decide they don't want you dead.

This happens maybe 6 or 7 times in the game, so the game keeps beating you over the head with the idea that the only way you win is if the villains let you. Fucking stupid.

You'll love the ending then

Obviously end game spoilers . You get captured and die
I put my heart and soul into my work and I fear I have lost my mind in the process

I remember that feature being a big missed opportunity.

It was a bit creepy when you'd suddenly get the warning. It would've been fun if that meant you had to drop stuff and haul ass over to some defensible area to fight your ass off to stop from getting kidnapped.

But no...
I'm almost certain that mechanic only appears in 5.

There was this annoying thing where a fucking plane kept flying at me and shooting me.

I would destroy it and then another would show up a few minutes later. Non stop. I shut it off.

The kidnapping thing seems to be unique to 5, but this...

and playing some forced fever dream mission

is why I recently gave up on Far Cry Primal. This type of mission along with the mechanically halfbaked animal missions was just too much.
Yeah, the forced plot garbage in FC5 was awful. Since that clock was running basically anytime you were doing anything in the main game, you could end up getting tranqed even when you were flying airplanes. Was actually excited to do a walkthrough for the game until I saw that Ubicrap.

At least the level editor was nice.
Take me down from the ridge where the summer ends
And watch the city spread out just like a jet's flame
Only thing I disliked more than the forced missions were the timed shit . Free roaming and just shooting random shit is one of halmarks of Far Cry, IMO, and they disrupted it.

the one thing I found hilariously bad about FC5 is that you couldn't shoot anything more than like 200 meters away. Your bullet would straight up despawn
The name is wackyteen for a reason. Never doubt.
