This is the kind of lunatic a juror is going to be dealing with if the media outs them. Some of these prospective jurors might vote to acquit regardless of the evidence just because they fear for their lives.

Maybe he shouldn't have told his lawyers to use them based on skin color.

Not something I'm actually saying happened, but given that he called for a judge's recusal based on the judge being Hispanic it would not surprise me if he was telling his lawyers to use them on some absolutely petty shit.

I was also surprised by this. I dont know what your experience with jury service has been Pie, but my JD/legal career has always disqualified me. When I lived in Va., I was always dismissed before coming in (long time ago, so dont know if that still happens.). Where I live now, I always come in and am instantly dismissed when people realize what I do for a living. Last time it was a law school friend of mine working the case who laughed at me for having to come before kicking me out!

Everywhere I have been no one wants a lawyer on a jury. Or maybe just me? But in this case finding a panel is so hard that I guess beggars cant be choosers?

The House can't technically do any work in the absence of a quorum of the members. Most of the time there's like 5 people in there and they just "presume" a quorum is present, but if something they don't like happens, all a Rep has to do to stop it is get the right to speak and note the lack of a quorum to force a quorum call.

Oh no, I've also been tossed for (presumably) my JD. Funnily enough, at all three stages of my career: law student, judicial clerk, and practicing attorney. All my voir dire questionings have ended at the "and what do you do for a living?" stage. Funny enough, the attorney at my second voir dire was a classmate of my judge, so she asked me to tell my judge she said hi.

Unless if I was really confident in both my case and the JD juror, I sure as hell would never let anyone with a JD on a jury if I still had the peremptory challenges to spare. Too much of a risk for taking control of deliberations. That said, I don't know what the strike count was looking like, but it wouldn't surprise me if this was strategic by the state. New Yorker + JD may be a good combo in this situation.

From the Washington Post, on the man who set himself on fire:

Julie Berman, 56, a Manhattan resident who came to the plaza to photograph protesters, saw the man set himself on fire. He had a sign saying something about Trump and Biden working together to orchestrate a coup, she said, and another one alleging some kind of Ponzi scheme. She said he told her to get back, then doused himself with liquid, threw some fliers in the air, then doused himself again before flicking a lighter and lighting himself on fire.

She said she was about 15 feet away.

I thought it was water at first, she said of the liquid the man doused himself with. It happened so fast and took my mind so long to catch up.

She had approached him to take a photograph, because photographing people around Trump events has become a hobby for her. Before she could ask him to take a close-up, he yelled at her repeatedly: Get away!

He appeared to be under age 40, she said; he reminded her of protesters from my Greenpeace days.

She said she did not wait to watch him burn to death, as others did.
"It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose. That is not a weakness. That is life."

Do no harm is a tenet of journalism that seems completely forgotten these days. Its infuriating. This kind of article helps no one.
"Truth", "accuracy", and "objectivity" are cornerstones of journalism ethics. Journalists are encouraged to maintain a degree of detachment from the religions, groups, or countries they are associated with, in order to minimize potential biases in their reporting.
