I am from the north and military age here is 18.
Where in the US is it 17?
All branches you can sign up for the military at 17 with parental consent in the US. I signed up for the Navy at 17 and my dad signed.

Israel not only has active and ongoing conscription of 17 year olds: you will be called back to duty after serving your time.
In the US afaik returning to service is voluntary.

The countdown starts ticking the moment one enters the Delayed Enlistment Program iirc.
It does. I was in DEP for a year, so I only needed 3 years of IRR after active duty.
Gotta get them young so they are easily indoctrinated.I don't know that Israel really needs the help with indoctrination.
What was your rate?
When I entered it was Machinist Mate (Nuclear) but I got out of the Nuclear side and went Gas Turbine Mechanic.
because service is compulsory in Israel?Democratic countries with neighbors trying to murder them -- like Israel, South Korea, and Finland -- need conscription to maintain a strong army at all times no matter what.
Gotta get them young so they are easily indoctrinated. That's how literally every military on the planet works, yes.
Israel not only has active and ongoing conscription of 17 year olds: you will be called back to duty after serving your time. When you leave service in the U.S., unless you're retiring (20+ years in, getting pension, etc..), you go into the Ready Reserve for ~ 4 years and can be called back to service. It's probably similar in most militaries. Potential life-or-death situations occurring require contingency planning...

Those in the U.S. and Canada have no idea how utterly blessed we are to not have such existential concerns.
