Lol, I would certainly hope that you can get a PC that cost 200 dollars more in 2024 that's better than a console that released in 2020.

This isn't nowhere near a flex you think it is

So since i don't care about 4k, 60fps, or the new FF7 game, I'm fine just sticking with my PS4 then.
Yeah, that's about where I'm at. If I bought a PS5 at this point it would literally only be for Final Fantasy 16 and 7 Rebirth, as none of the other (exclusive) games on it really interest me. It's just not worth the cost of entry to play two games, I can wait for the exclusivity period to run out and play them elsewhere.

If it gets more exclusives down the line that I want to get, I'll re-evaluate this position. GTA6 might be one that I can add to the list, depending on if the Final Fantasy titles are still exclusive when it releases. But right now it's not worth it for two.

the only upside to consoles is that they are cheaper. that's literally it. console gamers will say "oh but i can game from my couch, on my TV with a controller" which you can also do on PC. and when you tell them that, it's always IMMEDIATE shifting of goalposts. "lol who wants to have their PC hooked up to their TV?" or "oh but consoles are plug and play, so much simpler than PC" when that hasn't been true ever since consoles went online. now it's plug and download system update and install game data and download day one patch and play. or "oh PCs are so hard to maintain, consoles you don't have to worry about compatibility or anything going wrong" when PCs have much wider compatibility and are actually able to be troubleshooted and fixed when something goes wrong, whereas with consoles, if they fail you have to buy a whole new one.

plus, the functionality of consoles are extremely limited compared to PC. literally all a console is good for is gaming, whereas if you build a gaming PC, there is also so many more things you'll be able to do with it besides just gaming. console gamers never factor that into the cost-benefit analysis.

People who aren't good at computers will absolutely run into bugs they will never be able to fix on a PC. Consoles this won't happen because every console is the same so the bug can be patched specifically to be fixed for the same exact hardware and system version.
Something as simple as a driver update can be daunting for some people and truthfully some manufacturers make it more complicated than it should be.

He also recently had a melty over the price of video games being too high but he'll spend hundreds of dollars on figurines of anime girls to (I hope) do absolutely nothing with.
If you want a decently good pc set up it will cost between $1000-1200. This is including parts that will actually last 6 years and still be able to play games until the next gen.

Not much of an upside if that's all

I don't put much thought into my PC build, and the enjoyment of optimizing it to be near silent even in demanding games is worth it.

Because you are already an enthusiast . You love this stuff. You know this stuff. You building a new PC requires little to no mental or emotional energy. The experience of it is actually enjoyable to you. Look at you, you literally put together a build on pc part picker just for the fun of it to have this discussion.

Do you understand that that is really not the case for almost the entire population of the earth? 98% of the people in my office switch off mentally before you could even get them to replace a stick of RAM, and I work in a software company.

If this is hard for you to understand, just imagine me trying to get you to do a hobby that you really don't enjoy at all.

Bro it's super easy to get in shape. I could have you deadlifting 400lbs in a year and it wouldn't even be that hard. Let's just go to the gym for 4 hours a week for the next year. You in?

It actually is. Just be careful not to static shock the RAM or CPU. :)

I say it is harder to debug some software issues for games than actually put the PC together.

A 600 dollars PC that was made in 2024 performing better than a 500 dollar console that was made in 2020? Really....

Make this topic when you can build a 250 dollar PC that's on par with the PS5. All this topic did for me was make the PS5 the more reasonable choice

You can build a PC that is more powerful than the PS5, 4 years after the PS5 launch, for 150% of the PS5 price?

...and you still have to pay more for I/O devices and a way to install any OS?

...and you sound proud by this?

Yeah, if you're worried about audio you're buying a USB DAC/amp. No audiophile has used soundcards for years.
Many Bothans died to bring you this post.
I know PC is better but the only thing that annoys me is when my PC Master Race friends go on about how consoles hold back gaming. Yeah if games were only on PC graphics etc would be at an overall higher level but not nearly as many games would be being made without the consumer base provided by consoles. Like others have pointed out in the topic, the vast majority of people will not bother with building a custom PC.

It's also a complete and utter lie.

If that were the case everything would look like fortnite or wow, so enough people would actually be able to play it to turn a profit... cutting edge with a tiny install base is never going to happen unless they are charging you thousands for fucking software.

Linux is fine but really you need windows for gaming on PC unless you get lucky and the only games you care about just work. Theres plenty of games that just wont let you play online if youre on Linux or the DRM will ban you or some shit. Theres also the ecosystem around gaming which is developed for Windows

mobo sound is definitely fine but unless you are half deaf there is an immediate and obvious audio improvement using a DAC and AMP, these days its better to get them external and plug the DAC in via USB tho
8GB VRAM isn't a great idea if you want to future proof for PC for AAA games.
A Fallen Mascot
The problem is majority of people don't know how to build a pc, and are too intimidated to.

I have all the consoles plus a pretty great PC connected to my living room tv (4K 120 hz). Consoles are 100% more convenient than PCs. I can't express how often I have to troubleshoot BG3 on my PC. Spend like 30 minutes just trying to get that mf working. That being said when it works it works wonderfully.

According to TC, games are bad and not worth playing if they dont run in Linux.

I feel like stuff like this should be said more when it comes to console vs PC.

PC probably is better overall when it comes to performance, but console is way more casual friendly, and it goes without saying that casuals make up a majority of most things.

Like what if I don't care that my games aren't at 4K? What if I don't care that I can't play a game at 120FPS? What if I don't care that I can't make Tifa naked with mods

I don't play online games here either. Nor do I use cloud saves here. I have no need for them. To add the price of something I don't want to the cost is asinine.

Debatable. Pure performance specs stopped being impressive long ago. Gimme Astro over 8K 120fps RT any day now. Most impressive games are Astro (controller features) and Hunt Showdown (best audio to date and built around it, also a game thats on last gen).
