"Catchy" music that has no substance but is an earworm is just as meaningful as the most powerful pieces of music with strong and nuanced messages.

Beatles are ehhhhhh. I acknowledge and respect what they did for the industry, but their music is so whatever to me lol

I'm the same. Feel the same about Elvis too. And it's not that I dislike older music cause that's false.

Fun fact about a Elvis song though. Jailhouse rock he mentions a cute jail bird or something and wanting to spend time with them. Either Elvis has never been in a jail or he knows the men and women are seperated. And that's ignoring the fact there was probably very few women in jails back in his day. Hell that's still mostly true.

Ohhhhh, and Pink Floyd is one of the most overrated bands in the history of the world.

  • people who say stuff like, "rap stopped being good in the 90s" or something like that, never cared about the genre, and only say that stuff because it has become acceptable in the sense they believe that they come across as more open-minded
  • Bittersweet Symphony, or whatever it's called, is a bad song

Depends on how you mean that.

No Doubt had some amazing music and they were a great musical act.

Gwen Stefani's solo work is that of an entertainer.

Never cared for No Doubt. I guess if you took away Garbage, Tori Amos, Liz Phair, PJ Harvey, The Cranberries, Bjork, Belly, Juliana Hatfield, The Breeders, and Natalie Merchant theyd be interesting.

Modern metal > classic metal
Some mumble rap is pretty good
Happy hardcore is amazing
Sigilkore is pretty dope

Spiciest take: NSBM has been removed of most streaming platforms and websites, but I think its pretty hypocritical to not also remove artists who are linked to gang culture or artists who committed hate crimes like Dissection.

counterpoint: none of those artists did ska, which makes no doubt (at least their first two albums) pretty interesting

The posters in here who don't care about music are uncommon, but it's not unheard of. Plenty of people exist without consuming books or video games, and there are even people who don't watch TV or movies. Then think about things like theater where very few actively follow.
So I don't get why it's so bad people skip out on music.

I pretty much stopped listening to music all the time somewhere in college, thats over ten years ago now. For me music is an activity that you do by itself, if you know what I mean, as in I absolutely hate background music since its distracting so I never use a radio or have music on while doing something else. Since I like doing other stuff a lot more than just listening to music I rarely end up listening at all. At most I will listen to stuff for half an hour every few weeks to a few months or so.

If Tim Booth (singer from James and Manchester contemporary) had been the lead singer of The Smiths instead of Morrissey, they would have been one of the greatest bands in history.

It wouldn't take too much of a timeline tweak to have made it happen.

The 90s is the worst decade for music. The decade started with the shitty peak of hair metal, but then Grunge came along and was a huge step back in terms of music quality. after that with the flood of alternative crap after it took almost the whole decade for rock music to recover. We also have all the creatively bankrupt music from every older band. It seems like the worst album from every band around pre-90s was some mid 90s album, like Metallica's Load, Mtley Cre's Generation Swine, and so many others

But it wasn't just rock music that was on the decline. This was the decade that country music fully became unlistenable. Shit like "Achy Breaky Heart" was the start of it. And by the end we had complete crap like Toby Keith and Kenny Chesney

And worst of all was the rise of the shitty boy bands like Backstreet Boys and NYSNC. Pop music ended the decade at its most annoying with the start of Britney Spears.

The 90s was not all bad, hell I think there still might have been more good than bad. I love stuff like Primus, Rage Against the Machine, White/Rob Zombie, Smash Mouth, and most the Ska music. There were also a lot a great bands that got their start in the 90s but had their best work in the 2000s like System of a Down, Deftones, Ayreon, Incubus, and Red Hot Chili Peppers. But over all the 90s is the worst decade of music (and most other things) and I fucking hate the nostalgia for it

Also in a shorter hot take, Nu-metal is fucking awesome and does not deserve any of the hate it gets

Huey Lewis and the News's early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercial and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far much more bitter, cynical sense of humour.

Bohemian Rhapsody is probably the worst song of all time

Would say they're first two albums were much better than any of their mainstream stuff. Bohemian Rhapsody is way too incohesive.

Queen kinda had the same problem Kiss did: they were much better (and much heavier) live. Both bands studio albums are overproduction in a "polishing the shine off" way.
