Reminds me of that time I was told that "sand" came from "that space between the sea and land." Whether that's actually the word's origin or not I can't say, but I want to believe it is because that's quite clever.Unfortunately, it comes from the Norse word "sandr"

Makes sense. In their hate they think God is on their side while everybody else should be saying "by God you're stupid."
Isnt it funny how in ancient times soldiers would pray to God for support before going into battle? Never realizing that if God is going to favor you in this battle, letting you kill many other people, only to likely favor the other side next time, that would suggest theyre treating you like a chess piece?Depending on the religion, they might believe that if they are devout enough, God will always favour them. If he doesn't, then that's a failure on their part.
As far as Im concerned fuck any deity that uses you like that. They deserve no respect or worship whatsoever.

Alternatively, they believe the gods are fickle chess players, which makes it doubly important to persuade them to care about you.
Sure, that makes the gods pretty shitty, but we are where we are, and they are more likely to get you through the battle if you a nice to them, than if you tell them they don't deserve your respect.
Classical mythologies were way better about this. They didnt need to jump through mental hoops to explain how they somehow didnt prove themselves worthy of Gods favor. Classical gods were intentionally written to be fallible characters who usually did not give a fuck.
Bigot is a buzzword that doesn't mean anything.

Funny how I only hear this from people who routinely engage in and/or defend brazen bigotry.
No, the meaning is well established and understood.
If a person has been called a bigot, they know why.
Remember you leftists call everything racist!?'Pointing out racism makes you the real racist!'.
Remember you leftists call everything racist!?"You just hate different opinions" as if bigotry is as mundane as an opinion.
Everything I'm seeing online says its origin is French, but the original etymology is unclear. God in French is dieu.
In Spanish, "bigote" means mustache. And, funnily enough, the etymology might be the same as bigot.
