I never got to play Oregon Trail. However, I do recall our
old
computer stuff was basically divided into two areas. In elementary school there was the computer lab room for us to all take simple tests after reading books, then there was the more fun room where it had learning games. There was some sort of weird dungeon crawler game where you had to fight words and math iirc.
After that it was actually a total lack of computer access until 8th grade (so from 5-7th nothing) where it was a bit backwards. In 8th grade we learned how to use Word, Excel, etc type things such as file saving etc, and had to type up lengthy things. Then came 9th where they then actually taught us how to use the proper homerow type of thing. Not like I can physically type "properly" anyways.
Oh, as for personal computer. My cousin had a computer for years, then my grandparents decided to take me to Circuit City and get a computer so I could use it for homework and such. Ofcourse, my dad never having a single interest in computers until then decided to lock it down for himself and I basically never got to use it. If he messed it up somehow, it was always my fault for putting all these games on it, which I didn't.
