I'm now watching the old X-Men cartoon from start to finish

If this show came out today without any changes, right-wingers would be decrying it as "woke" the same way they're doing now to its upcoming continuation.

I don't know about that . By this point, Trump's cult of personality disorders bear an uncanny resemblance to the FoH. The only things that differentiate the two to me are that:

1. The Friends of Humanity are fictional
2. The Friends of Humanity target specifically mutants
3. The Friends of Humanity ditched Graydon Creed Jr. in the end
Personally, I chalk it up to how the hateful idiots that Claremont was railing against when he wrote his original run of the X-Books from the '70s to the very early '90s (which the bulk of the show drew from, as did all later comic runs and adaptations) never really went away.
Well until maga starts chucking hand grenades into community centers in broad daylight I think the FoH are worse.

Though with all the bs going on for the past decade I can't argue I might have forgotten a few incidents if there were any.

Though as I write this and think about it a bit more, the difference is the fictional version does things physically while the irl ones do it legislatively, so perhaps they're the same people after all. I was even going to mention earlier their stint with biological warfare with the techno virus but then there was COVID. :/
