I Love Xenogears(with the disk 2 problem) and wondering if I should try these games.

The story is good, the gameplay isnt very good until the 3rd game

Great. A nostalgic game for me. Was only able to play the second one in the UK when I was younger since that was the only one that came out, then was obsessed with playing the other ones. It was only till later I was able to play the whole thing.

Fucking trash. If you llved Gears, Saga will either be mediocre or bad. Especially the second game. It was horrible.

Third game was worth it.
Why is it that he can hit a 3rd baseman on a frozen rope from 300 feet away, but he can't hit a 12 foot tall catcher from 60 feet 6 inches away?

Can I just play the third game or do I need to play the rest?
Best damn game about Ninja http://www.i-mockery.com/minimocks/ninjagolf/ninjagolf-flashgame.php
You should definitely play them all. It's all one continuous story. Third game wraps up a lot set up by the other two
I don't believe in belts. There should be no ranking system for toughness.
I got the first one around launch. I couldn't finish it. I tried twice, but it just didn't do it for me.
...I think I'm done here...

You can probably just watch the first two.

There's this revelation at the end of the third one. I'm still trying to decide how it stacks up compared to the bit at the end of Yakuza 7 and the big twist from Bionic Commando.
Still waiting on that third threat
How bad are the first two?

I would not say that the first one was bad, but I definitely did not enjoy the second one.

The bigger problem imo is just how long they are. Its a slog through two mediocre games with pretty intriguing story

Personally id suggest the xenoblade series first, if you havent played that

Didn't play the Blade Saga do I need to play Saga to understand the story for Blade or can I start with that?

Xenoblade is its own thing, no relation to xenosaga, outside of some thematic similarities

Good story, bad gameplay.
I only played the first one, but I thought it was really good, but it didn't feel anything like Xenogears tbh

Also be aware that these games are well known for being extremely long-winded, with cutscenes that seem to go on forever.
Sack to crack, going to town
I mean I agree with what everyone else said. Play em all just know the second was the worst of the 3. There's a save import function too. I liked the experience of playing all 3 back to back. Especially after how long it took me to find all the damn games.

I wish the NDS demake that tells the story of 1 and 2 (with additional lore supposedly) would get fan translated already

Although I will say, as much of a disappointment Xenosaga was for me as a huge Xenogears fan, I played Xenoblade for the first time when it released on Switch, and it was fucking fantastic.

Complete?!

I was aware of one that was maybe 10% finished and mostly just menus and items.

If there's one that's mostly complete I'm potentially starting it this weekend

Seem they're still working on it.

All I could find is that menus and etc were translated last fall but that's as far as the team will go.

The gameplay in the first game is ok. Generic JRPG stuff for the first half of the game. The second half of the game is X-Bustersaga

I enjoyed the second one since the combat is actually pretty fun when you get the hang of it and abuse MOMO's totally broken damage, but it had one of the absolute worst sidequests in any game I've ever played, the one where you have to spend like an hour or 2 stealing an item from a boss to help some guy pay off his debt or something. I've forgotten a lot of the game but I still remember how tedious and boring that was.
Are we the baddies?
I think I would find them very hard to play now. Too slow.

There's cutscenes in these games that are so long you get a chance to save in the middle of them.

I would agree with this.

You can also if you've got like 20 hours to spare just watch 1 & 2 on YouTube and play 3.

Potentially light spoilers

Xenogears, Xenosaga series, and Xenoblade series are each their own universe that have recurring themes, and are tangibly connected due to a recurring artifact called a conduit. This basically means stuff like multiverse theory, alternative dimensions etc. That's my understanding anyway.

Xenoblade is on of my favorite RPGs ever made. You are in for a treat imo. Up there with Xenogears in different ways

I didn't really enjoy Xenosaga and heard II is a downgrade, but that III is a solid experience. That's why I've been holding out for the NDS version which I hear is actually a good game.

This was retconned iirc. The original xenosaga was intended to be a 6 game thing that leads up to the start of xenogears but it was cancelled halfway through so they changed the story. It might be better to think of it like Final Fantasy where there's some shared cosmology but they're all fundamentally different games with no crossover... Dissidia notwithstanding.

Yeah, I kinda agree with this. The first game was okay, but the second was fucking god awful. After forcing myself to finish it, I didn't have it in me to play the third, although most people say it's the best game in the trilogy.
