In the United States, white people are treated better than non-whites

This is a stupid conversation I had with a boomer at work (early 60s is considered a boomer, right?). I don't even work with this guy, but he's in the company break room at the same time as me during my breaks. He goes off on some rant about how minorities get preferential treatment on a lot of things nowadays, and that Gen Z is more likely to give people of color a chance in the spotlight just for being a minority. I argued that while that's true, white people still generally have an easier time at life than anybody else. Nobody else in the break room wanted to engage in the conversation, but I feel like I'm right. I have a hard time believing that lives are not overall easier for white people, but is that false?
