I think the idea for this game came from a right wing argument for why we shouldn't ban assault rifles.
"What if you are driving around in your pick up one day and you are teleported into 9th century Feudal Europe. You are instantly enthralled in their conflict. How are you going to defend yourself then? Lucky you got your legal assault weapon with you to mow down the ancient son of bitches and reign for the rest of your days as a king! It could happen to anyone at any time."
