GoFundMe will remove it in the next couple of days. It goes against the ToS and has been reported a bunch, with the response being itll be reviewed in one to two business days so clearly nothings gonna happen over the long weekend

In two days, huh?
That's a lot... until you realize that to accrue 350 million dollars at that rate would take 4 to 5 years.
Sigs are rather pointless, except if it's to showcase animation and images.
This is obviously against their ToS, but they are claiming its not. Lawsuit incoming

Which isn't a lot and anyone who believes otherwise is an idiot who doesn't understand just how much $350M really is. Plus there's the matter of interest which the GFM isn't even making enough to cover yet.

Watched a video, Alina Habba said Trump is worth "billions and billions and billions", and they'll have no problem paying the $400M for an appeal. So why is he hocking shoes?

Yep. That $425k is barely over one tenth of a percent of their goal.

Did some math.
With $219,062 from about 5,000 donations, that is an average of $43.82 per person.
If $43.82 ends up being the median per donation, you'll need about 8,101,324 people to match that target. Florida's population in 2023 was around 22,160,726 people. So, you'll need 1 in every 3 persons to be willing to dump money for that moldy orange.
Honestly, that doesn't seem impossible given how hard Florida Republicans pull for Trump. You're talking basically the cost of food on a single game day. They might consider that a bargain.

Can you write off this type of donation on tax? Registered charities, sure, but they in this case it definitely should not be allowed.

No, the direct donation or donation via sites like GoFundMe needs to be directed to a 501(c)(3) organization.

It should be shut down, but looks like they are siding with the Trumpers on keeping it up

Amid the severe backlash on social media, Jalen Drummond, GoFundMe's director of public affairs, told Newsweek, This fundraiser is currently within our terms of service.

And for those keeping score at home, there is some conflict with Drummond.

Drummond previously worked as a White House assistant press secretary during the Trump administration.

According to his LinkedIn profile, he first served as an associate director at the Office of Communications at the White House, from November 2019 to August 2020. From August 2020 to January 2021, when Trump left office, he was the assistant White House press secretary.

Upon leaving the White House, he tweeted a photo of himself with Trump and called the experience "an honor of a lifetime."

So they're bringing in, what, $200K per day on average? Like a previous poster said, even if they somehow manage to maintain public interest to keep this rate steady (very unlikely), it'll take them just about 5 years to pay off the $355M (not including interest).

For real. Financial destitution is a fitting end for those who would donate to Trump so he can escape legal consequences.

I think the fact that the mega-wealthy haven't jumped to Trump's side to pay these bills gives credence to the notion that most of them are abandoning him in addition to them supporting Haley instead.

When Scott Walker ran in 2016, the Koch Brothers, by themselves, gave him a 900m loan that they asked him to return after his laughably flaccid campaign failure. Trump would need just half of that for both NY civil cases and considering the permanent tax breaks he gave the mega wealthy there's definitely at least that amount that's been made among the various Republican-donating entities.

Reminds me of how easy in theory it is to become a millionaire. If everyone in my city gave $1, that would amass almost two million dollars. Two million people making a barely noticeable donation results in one persons life being elevated massively.

The problem is the logistics of organizing that, and getting people motivated to click the button.

Everybody donating no doubt demonizes the IRS for "stealing their money to help people they don't like or want to help", as they'd much rather donate it to the legal defense of the most obvious criminal in U.S. history.
