It's funny you mention that episode...I rewatched the first season not too long ago, for the first time since the show aired. I had forgotten essentially all of the storylines, but the moment I reached that episode and saw those two Digimon,
I immediately remembered their fate and felt sad all over again. Actually, if I remember correctly, I think Myotismon said something along the lines of "it's back to the digital world for you two," or something like that. But it wouldn't surprise me if the original script meant to have them die.

Puppetmon's design STILL stands out for me as being a really awesome design.
I want to create a comic book supervillain with a similar design actually.
He was the creepiest cartoon character I had seen up until that point. I was already creeped out by puppets from watching Twilight Zone and Goosebumps, so that guy left an impression on me. And from what I recall, the Japanese version had him using guns, just to make him all the more terrifying.
