Oh SHIT I just bought and started Skyrim again!

Current Events » Oh SHIT I just bought and started Skyrim again!
I've played this game on PC, PS3, PS4, and PS4 VR. Now I can play it on PS5.

The new thing about this run, is it will be the first time I get to play the game on a console while running at 60 fps without a big piece of plastic on my head. So nice and comfortable.

And apparently there's a ton of actual mods? I know a lot are already included. I'm a little confused on how it all works. Are the slow motion arrow and spell kills new? I don't remember those. Anyway, any mods here on the console version that I should be aware of?

Anything naughty? >_>

I'm going with a she-orc this time, have no idea what kind of build. I can never decide. It's safe to switch around in this game right? I've forgotten so much. Right now I'm putting a few different things to favorites and swapping in the midst of battle as needed to maximize the two resource bars. So I'll go full Emperor with lightning at first, then when depleted a I whip out a shield and go melee.

I forget how detailed the melee combat is. Do various weapons have different feels, speeds, reaches, etc? Or is it just broken down by one handed and two handed and after that they're pretty much the same? For instance, if I have a two hander greatsword and a two hander battle axe, and the axe does a few more points of damage, is there ever a reason to use the greatsword (like it's faster?) Problem is I've played so much Chivarly since the last time I played, so I'm mixing everything up. I keep wanting to push R1 to lunge!

Anyway gimmie tips and stuff. Right now just got to Riverrun so I'm a baby she-orc.

This wiki is super helpful for any small questions like that you have through your playthrough. I did a big playthrough last year (Two-handed+Conjuration Orc build) but I've already forgotten most things. Mostly I was using Warhammers and occasionally Battleaxes. The weapons and armor you get through the AE quests are slightly overpowered, but really fun to use.

No, not on Playstation. Unless they changed it with the PS5 release which I didn't think so.

There's mods but no external assets can be used.
Asus ROG Strix Z790-E | Core i9-13900k | 64GB DDR5-6000 | RTX 4090 24GB
Dell AW3423DW QD-OLED - 1440p Ultrawide, 175hz, GSync
Oh shit I forgot, every time you level up an ability, it adds overall level up XP, so if you level junk abilities that you don't plan on using, then it's possible to be super weak compared to a strong world.

Every time I play this game I always go melee, either two handed or sword and board. This time I really want to try the magic path but I just can't go full blown magic.

QUESTION:

Is a shield and destruction magic build viable? Running around shooting lightning bolts while blocking stuff with a shield?

Any build can be viable. But vanilla magic doesn't scale well in Skyrim, so if there's any mods to help balance magic, get those.

I wouldn't care even remotely if he was just saying he's playing his 10,000th run through the game. (Well I'd care from a mental health perspective) but this creates financial incentive for what I believe is wrong with the state of gaming.

My daughter begged me to play again because she wanted to watch. I gave in, she quit watching after 45 minutes.

It's been 2 weeks, I'm still playing

It's been so long since I played it's all new again, with the added bonus of looking and running much better.

No regurts
So! You want to hear a story, eh?
I'm playing Nolvus, a modlist. Quite amazing.

From what I remember, swords are fastest, followed by axes, and then maces/war hammers. Swords get Crit, Axes do Bleeding Damage, and Maces/Hammers can ignore some defense. You'll see these in the One-Handed and Two-Handed skill trees, as I believe they have to be unlocked.

So basically swords are fastest, with a chance for more damage, axes are medium with bonus damage, and maces are slowest but with the highest damage per hit.
Bosses are immune to the eat command so it won't be possible to end the final boss fight of the game by eating it.

Because creating an AAA buy-it-once game that sells for even $80 is a terrible business plan when it provides 500-1000 hours of play. ...and people sensibly resist subscription or endless paid DLC models.

That is provided you actually invest points in those perks.

They can be. Destruction is good damage for most of the game, and you can use alchemy to create Fortify Destruction potions that increase the damage further. There's also a perk that causes enemies to get knocked down if you cast a single-hand spell with both hands, so you can just chain attacks and murder most enemies with ease.

Though my favorite way to play is to combine one or two magic schools with a melee fighter.

They certainly can be...with mods. Particularly Apocalypse and Ordinator.

Without mods, Conjuration is probably the most effective; dual-summoned Dremora Lords are very effective, and if you're patient enough to keep from losing track of them, a pair of Dead Thrall'd Forsworn dual-wielders will wreck shit (if you have the AE, there's also some very nice Undead summons available, particularly the Tomb Guardian and Bone Colossus). Destruction is way too underpowered compared to Archery and Melee, so you're pretty much forced to mind-numblingly stunlock enemies with the Impact perk until they die of boredom (AE does add some very nice Drain Health spells and powerful expert-level elemental spells, though). Illusion is fun, but more supplemental; it's a hell of a lot of fun to Frenzy a room full of enemies, but you'll similarly die of boredom waiting for them to actually kill one another. Alteration has Paralysis which is OP, but is also supplemental as it won't win any fights on its own.
Simple questions deserve long-winded answers that no one will bother to read.
Nice posts everyone but lol I'm gonna ignore the guy who hates game rereleases.

Yeah I remember I did get some mods back on my first play on PC, and some were horny ones. I had a sex house somewhere and there were ladies with naked giant boobs walking around. But anyway, I don't PC game anymore because I just don't enjoy it.

I always start out my games with bow and stealth, but then I always eventually drop it because I just go fuck it. So that's probably what I'm gonna do again. :V

Anyway, these are the combat skills I've decided to level in:

Light Armor
Blocking
Destruction
Conjuration
One Handed

Hope that's not too spread out. If there's room for it, I'd add in sneak and archery as well just as a battle starter.

What are the non combat skills worth investing in? Lockpicking? The charisma one? What about any kind of crafting stuff? I was looking at enchantments and I never bothered with them before but now that I'm using magic they may be good. Is that the kind of stuff you have to make or can you just get good stuff without investing in the skill?

You've never used enchanting? My goodness. But to answer, you can get drops/rewards that will carry you through a mage build, so enchanting is not essential per se. But I've always enchanted at least something on my playthroughs.

I got access to some better spells finally. Summon flame demon is really good. And also elemental blast is fun, basically shooting a cannon out of your hand.

Fiddled around in Whiterun for a while, now I'm in Riften doing stuff. Probably not going to do the thieves quest. Going to head to the mountain, then after that take a carriage to Hogwartz and study to become a wizard.
