Why did they do this

A whole game of only mild difficulty and then they do this as the finale

This is for the Bowsette fanart, I know it. They had a prophet tell them what would happen and this was their preemptive punishment.

It's a Mario game, yes.

No. But it is only like my third 3D Mario game. I don't remember Mario 64 or Sunshine having a gauntlet quite this intense.

I've also not played any of the more modern 2D ones which I know do this kind of thing too.

Its one of the many ways that Nintendo designs Mario games for players of all skill levels.

Irregardless, for all intensive purposes, I could care less.
I remember it being a real challenge, but not unfairly so. IIRC, there was a late-game moon that required consistent long jumps and a bullet bill... that was the one that drove me crazy.

It's not unfair necessarily, but I sure could use a checkpoint. By this stage, I've mastered most of it, but I keep having to redo the entire thing because I fall off the planks with the woodpecker.

That's one of the ones on the Dark Side of the Moon which has a bunch of the challenge maps but force you to do them without Cappy.

That one was actually somehow easier for me than the main one in that map. The main one has a long path with bricks that keep getting destroyed by Bullet Bills. The one you're talking about is actually the "secret" one where you go on a bottom path with only four-square blocks to land on. The Koopa races had conditioned me to use the long jump a lot, so long jumping across them only took me a couple tries. I think it took me about twenty to do the main path because I couldn't just spam long jumps. I remember thinking that I wish I'd just done that path in the first place.

As always, bitching on CE helps. I think I died like three more times after making this topic before doing it. That woodpecker was basically the last part, the Bowser section was really easy because - thank god - they give you six health for it. I went into it with one health, so that would have been an issue.

So to get 999 moons, you just have to farm a shitload of coins? Might pass on that. I got a gold balloon, that's enough.
