After Killers of the Flower Moon premiered at Cannes in May, Scorsese traveled to Italy with his wife, Helen Morris, to attend a conference titled the Global Aesthetics of the Catholic Imagination. Afterward, he met briefly with Pope Francis and later announced, I have responded to the popes appeal to artists in the only way I know how: by imagining and writing a screenplay for a film about Jesus.
Scorsese has completed the screenplay for that film, collaborating with critic and filmmaker Kent Jones, and plans to shoot it later this year. Theyre still swimming in inspiration, he tells me, still figuring it out. Itll be based on Shsaku Ends book A Life of Jesus. (End also wrote Silence.) And itll be set mostly in the present day, though Scorsese doesnt want to be locked into a certain period, because he wants the film to feel timeless. He envisions the movie to run around 80 minutes, focusing on Jesus core teachings in a way that explores the principles but doesnt proselytize.
Im trying to find a new way to make it more accessible and take away the negative onus of what has been associated with organized religion, Scorsese says.
possibly in the starring role.Sounds awful.
Sounds interesting. The last movie he made about Jesus had people trying to ban it, from how he's describing it, I expect the same response to this one.

Anyone familiar with the book?
The Jesus Endo depicts in alternate chapters of this novel and in his A Life of Jesus , which was published in the same year, is a person to whom a yellow man can relate. This Jesus lacks the power that the Japanese find so intimidating and difficult to accept. (Endo rejects all of Jesus miracles.) Rather, Endos Jesus is a man with tired sunken eyes that emit a sad radiance. He was the man who could accomplish nothing, the man who possessed no power in this visible world. He was never known to desert other people if they had trouble. And with regard to those who deserted him, those who betrayed him, not a word of resentment came to his lips. No matter what happened, he was the man of sorrows, and he prayed for nothing but their salvation.

QueYou ever see a movie where a normally great actor sucks? There needs to be good directing and good writing for them to actually give a good performance
google brings this up as a search result
doesn't really sound like catholic propaganda. find it hard to believe that anyone who has seen scorsese's movies thinks he would do something like that lmao.
can't wait to see it

You ever see a movie where a normally great actor sucks? There needs to be good directing and good writing for them to actually give a good performanceAnd then on the other hand you get people like Jared Leto who is practically like the King Midas of shit and made several movies of varying quality actively worse with his presence.
I'm fine with cinema. It's christianity I detest.
he finally remembers that movies dont need to be 3 hours long. thank Christ!I think most movies these days could learn from this.

yeah. good directors get good performances. doesn't really matter who the actor is. maybe something you've noticed if you've watched movies before. a great example is the recent film licorice pizza, where alana haim and cooper hoffman, two people who had never acted before, turned in stellar performances. because paul thomas anderson is a great director. martin scorsese is also a great director. what's the problem here dude. he'll be fine if he winds up having a role in it.
not interested in this subject matter. doubly so if he's trying to make religion look good. hopefully he can get this over with quick and get the next one rolling.
