in an empty parking lot after business hours.

Last night at around 9:30pm I had to deposit some cash into my bosses account since he was out of town. He had a bunch of 10s and 5s and the ATM inside the bank only accepts 30 bills at once so I had to do a couple transaction so I was probably in there for five minutes. Came outside and saw a cop writing me a ticket and he said he wasnt going to write me one but said I took too long in there.

So you could use any parking space in the lot and you still chose the handicap spot.. why?

TC didn't expect to get ticketed at that very moment. even more so a handicapped person probably didn't need to go to the bank at that time.

I just never mark in handicap spots regardless and avoid issues like this pretty well. =P

I have a disability that presents some significant mobility issues, and I dont use those spaces. I think it is pretty easy to leave them for people who might actually need them.
An opinion does not turn into a fact simply because the person holding it feels strongly about it.

My late father once got a handicap parking ticket at Wal-Mart despite having a handicap license plate. He got it dismissed but mayor's court still made him pay the $95 court fees.

If you bring photo evidence of this to court btw you'll get off. The space has to be clearly marked. I've seen someone in court get away with it because the paint was so faded it wasn't possible to know it was a handicap spot.

Somewhat related, but I got a ticket once in a town that had one of those "no parking on the curb overnight" rules. I ended up getting the ticket thrown out when I showed up to court with a printout of the ordinance which stated that every street must be clearly marked with a sign that the ordinance applies to and pictures of the street I was on where no sign existed.

Which is all to say I can indirectly confirm that those sorts of arguments actually do work in court.

Most people don't park in handicap spots when they're not handicapped. If you legitimately just walk around justifying crimes by telling yourself that everyone around you breaks the law too then that says a lot more about you than it does CE.

It's like people who block traffic in a narrow residential street by stopping in front of their friend's house (on the non-parking side) to have a conversation with them rather than pulling into the driveway, and then look at everybody trying to maneuver around them like they're the asshole

Yall acting like I do this everyday lmao it was literally at night, in an empty strip mall with no cars on the road. Tbh I wasnt paying attention to where I parked and yeah its my fault my gripe is the cop should have let me slide whether I was in there for five minutes or 30 seconds.
