Especially somewhere different that youre not familiar with and not used to the roadways.

Im gonna be driving in Las Vegas and it scares me. People drive so aggressively there. Gonna avoid the strip as much as possible.
no, just be aware of your surroundings and you should be fine is pretty much how i handle driving in cities.
THRILLHO
Vegas isn't bad to drive in at all, I wouldn't be worried. The streets make sense and it didn't feel like drivers were overly aggressive at all.

Now if it's a place like Boston, it's a little different. That is one of the only cities that made me have some anxiety. Aggressive drivers and nothing makes sense lol.

Yeah. Having your car die on the side of one of the busiest highways in the country will do that to you.

Nope. Born and raised in Los Angeles. City driving is part of my every day commute. It's not bad at all once you get used to it. Just relax and practice defensive driving techniques and you'll be fine TC. Here are the ones I always follow:

  1. Stay Focused on Your Driving and the Road - Basically, don't multitask while you're driving. Don't text and drive, don't eat and drive, etc. Give the road your full attention. Pull over if you absolutely must use your phone or something else.
  2. Always Keep an Eye on Your Surroundings and Scan Far Ahead - This doesn't mean you have to be on edge, just keep an eye on the cars around you. A lot of people have tells when they are about to do something like turn or change lanes, even if they don't use their turn signals. For example, if someone wants to change lanes, they might stay close to the edge of the lane while waiting for an opening and look over their shoulder or into their mirrors.
  3. Always Try to Predict a Possible Risk - This goes hand in hand with keeping an eye on your surroundings. If you notice a vehicle that might be unsafe, like someone swerving, lane hopping or tailgating someone, you should slow down and increase the distance between you and that vehicle. Likewise if there's a truck that's carrying things that don't look like they're tied down securely, then also increase your distance from them, or change lanes. This also applies to when someone is tailgating you. If they're right on your bumper, then slowly increase the distance between you and the car ahead of you. That way, you reduce the chance that you'll need to stop suddenly and you can focus on slow gradual stops that give the tailgater more time to react.
  4. Dont Drive in the Blind Spot of Another Vehicle - Basically, if you are directly next to a vehicle and neither of you are passing, then you should adjust your speed so that you move out of their blindspot. Not always possible in bumper to bumper traffic, but it helps avoid people that change lanes without checking their blindspot.
  5. Dont Expect That Others Will Be Driving Carefully - Or as my mom liked to put it, always assume that other drivers are going to do something stupid. Coming up on a stop sign or yellow light? Then make sure that the other cars stop like they're supposed to, even if that means waiting for a moment longer.

Not because of other driver but because the lines on the road in big cities are usually very shitty and make little sense (the angry people just added on top of that)

Especially at intersections where the other connecting road ahead isnt aligned with yours. You cant see the lines because they are worn out and its impossible to see when the road is wet and at night.
Bump
Im in Vegas now. Yup, people still drive like maniacs here. No turn signals, U-turns wherever they feel like, and some dont care if they get into another lane without checking their blind spots. Pedestrians dont care either, some crossing the busy road wherever they feel like. Some dude was rollerblading in road with dark clothing at night.
