SMGs are entirely useless at all ranges unless you play hardcore where they're just mostly useless - and you have to deal with everyone in the entire game just laying prone in one area the entire match. ARs are fine, battle rifles which are basically just bigger ARs seem better being basically the only gun that can reliably get 3 shot kills.
Kinda similar situation to Counter-Strike.
The first round is the pistol round, but whichever team wins then gets enough money to buy rifles. The SMGs are just... not worth the price. And yes, there were people who achieved godly skill with the MP-15, but they still didn't compare to those who mastered the AK-47 and especially the AWP.
