Besides those without fingernails/those who let them grow out. Bite or clippers?

I "bite" my fingernails in the sense that I bite a corner so can peel the rest of it off when it starts getting too long, which is what I assumed everyone did until I learned that "nail biters" are some frowned upon subsection of society.
