I like it when conspiracy theories are about aliens and werewolves and not vaccines and antisemitism.
I would love a place to go back and listen to the old episodes on demandA few years ago I listened to a bunch of episode on YouTube. I think they had all of "Mel's hole" story
That's actually something I haven't thought about since I haven't listened in forever. I know the show is still going, are modern episodes about Covid and being anti-vaxx? I wouldn't want to listen if they were.
I wanted to get into it back in the day.
Yes, the stories were all bullshit but it was interesting in a Jerry Springer meets Ghost Adventures way.
Almost always found myself in the midst of something better to do when it came on.
I always enjoyed it. Yes, it was all mostly bullshit with people calling in saying they saw Shadow People or were bitten by werewolves. It was still decent entertainment, especially when you realize some of the callers genuinely believe what they are saying.Shadow People are real. Saw them as a teen along with my sister. We had a backdoor at our house and it was at the far side of the kitchen. We were both on the couch and I noticed movement. I nudged my sister and she whispers what is that? It must have heard and faded away. We told our dad and he didn't believe us. We grew up and it was forgotten about. Which brings into question few months back there was a topic about hearing things not there. Guess where I heard a small bell? The kitchen. Weird.
I haven't listened since the early 2000s. I would love a place to go back and listen to the old episodes on demand.

I liked it back in the day before we had more choices for insomniacs online.
Unfortunately, this is where some really terrible people like Alex Jones and various anti-vax people got their big start.
For any of the old school C2C heads here, I have to post this.I really liked Phil Hendrie, and caught him at least 3 nights a week. The time slot for him locally was just perfect for me to catch his show often. There's a site somewhere with a lot of his old shows that are downloadable.
Phil Hendrie used to send up is show very well. ((And I hope you all got to hear Phil))
Anyway, here is on bit he did, its pretty out there even my Phil and Art Standards.
I won't even set it up except to say...."I'm far from being alright man..." ~In the middle of a hurricane.
If you remember any of this, you get a chuckle out of it.

I don't know who Phil Hendrie is... I just started the one archive that was posted though. What am I about to listen to?

Based on the first caller on this clip (Florida Voter Confusion) I think I know where it's going but I will see...
Imagine a "serious" call in talk show (sometimes the topics are outrageous). Then imagine the host (unknown to the caller) using technology to sound old, young, male, female and "interviewing" himself. At least one character will say something completely outrageous.
Callers - in good faith - call in to "correct the story" and Hendrie as either himself, or most often, manipulating his voice to sound like his "interviewee", trolls and fucks with the callers for 2 hours. Never anything serious or too political, but stuff like HOAs, weight loss, breast implants, letting neighbors use the toilet, etc. (just off the top of my head).
Takes a few shows to "get" it and figure out which characters are him. Once you realize how he's trolling, it can be hysterical. The callers often got furious and there's bleeps and hangups frequently.
I used to fall asleep to the radio when I was younger, mainly to AM Cleveland sports games and talk shows. Very late at night when they were over C2C would come on and I honestly can't remember much about it but I remember loving the hell out of the song they would usually finish the show with.

Exactly where I thought it was going. The one dude on this clip is insisting that the only reason Jeb Bush is running is because he knows George W will rig the vote for him for a reason. I won't give the reason here but there's going to be all sorts of callers pissed off they said it so i can see what this show is about and it's kinda funny so far.

Other characters will agree. It's all Hendrie, though.

EDIT: As the "impartial host", he's sometimes the most blantantly biased host imaginable. That's part of the gag too, and sometimes sets off the caller by itself. At a quick listen ~ 15 minutes or less, it comes off as a real show though and people called in.
That is a pretty good run down.
Though I don't think he could get away with some of shit he pulled off back in the day.
Literally, Bobby Dooly casually talking about Rape as she sitting a bathtub swishing the water around.
The opening lines a Bob Green Bit..[Sic] ."All I did Mr Hendire was take the girl by the hand I lead her acrross the street.... YA, but she was screaming right? ....Because kids are afraid of Dogs, I put her in the Van, and for that, I was almost beaten to death..."
2002-11-21 Dean Wheeler -Neighbourhood Vigilance "Three thousand people dead, andI'm the only one counting jars of Anal-Ese.." ~In regards to looking out for Terrorism, post 9/11.
This shit was all live, made even better as it followed the full lineup of 'Conservative' radio of the time.
It did seem to me that most - but by no means all - the callers he got could be called 'conservative' by 2005-2010 standards.
I started listening in mid 2004. Art was still doing shows but it was transitioning to George.
I loved the show as a sleep deprived college and then grad student back then. It was all clearly for whackos but I enjoyed the crazy stories and the callers. Ed Danes is still my favorite classic guest.
I fell out of love with the show not long after Obama was elected. The tenor of the show turned and seemed less, you know, kooky, and and a lot of the guest seemed more dark in tone. Didn't help that George was too nice and wouldn't call out people enough. Art wanted to believe but was not afraid to be critical. George wanted to believe too much.
It also horrifies me how stuff that was OK for late night weirdos to believe 20 years ago has been laundered into the main stream. I remember hearing the anti-vax autism stuff in 2004 on the show and thinking wow, this is nuts who would believe this. Same with the ranting about 3g and high tension wires. Now people believe this material to the point of it impacting the daylight hours.
That's not funny stories at night. That's scary. I can't enjoy the show now.
IMO host power ranking
Art > George Knapp > Ian > George Noory
I haven't listened to the show in a decade or more and I have no idea who hosts now.
Edit again
My favorite moment ever was someone calling on the wild card line and reciting the story of Half Life from the perspective of Gordon. George thought it was real and had the caller stay on for two segments walking through it. It was amazing.
m,Are you drinking the Goblin Juice now, Art?
Ya, I remember you liking him...You and I are probaby the biggest CE Radio nerds out there.
Sorry for that link, but if you follow it to, 61, you will find one of his best Art Bell bits.
Art Bell 2004, 08, 12 Hurrican Charley. It's amazing.
Ya, he got a little political after 9/11 on his mid-hour...which was typical throwing red meat to the conservative base, and that sucked.the first episode I heard was Bobbie Dooley from Western Estates and her husband conducting a pre dawn raid to take the neighbors children because their parents let them eat gogurt and play video games. This was after the Elian Gonzalez raid.
But still from late '98 to about 2004 his shit was fire.
Honestly probably the best live radio I ever heard. ((BBC notwithstanding))
I do have some bits, but I am not sure where to host them.
But the Internet Achive site has it all.
How about Llody Bonifide equating eating Ham on Eastern, with Hating all Korean War Vets and Elvis?
~That shit was amazing.
