I always enjoyed it. Yes, it was all mostly bullshit with people calling in saying they saw Shadow People or were bitten by werewolves. It was still decent entertainment, especially when you realize some of the callers genuinely believe what they are saying.

I haven't listened since the early 2000s. I would love a place to go back and listen to the old episodes on demand.

Liked Art Bell a lot and listened to a ton of his shows.
And as the people bend, The moral fabric dies, Then country can't pretend to ignore its peoples cries.
Used to catch it when I worked nights. I like it when conspiracy theories are about aliens and werewolves and not vaccines and antisemitism.

That's actually something I haven't thought about since I haven't listened in forever. I know the show is still going, are modern episodes about Covid and being anti-vaxx? I wouldn't want to listen if they were.

I kinda stradied away from it when there really was a show about ghosts or UFOs's everyweek.

But it is good overnight radio, for sure. And Never had an issue with George Noory.
Art got a little weird towards the end. They sell me on CCrane Radios though, they are good!!

I wanted to get into it back in the day.

Yes, the stories were all bullshit but it was interesting in a Jerry Springer meets Ghost Adventures way.

Almost always found myself in the midst of something better to do when it came on.

It was pretty fun for a while.

But ya, nowadays it's The BBC World service, which is Ace, or just the local Scanner.

I liked it back in the day before we had more choices for insomniacs online.

Unfortunately, this is where some really terrible people like Alex Jones and various anti-vax people got their big start.
Be careful: I was moderated for telling people not to commit illegal acts of assault and murder.
It's not worth trying to be the voice of reason sometimes.
I can enjoy some crazy conspiracies when they aren't a danger to society. Ghost stories are fun. I did enjoy it back in the day. I would also follow their website and look at all the very, very easily fake ghost images and shit and it was fun lol.

Shadow People are real. Saw them as a teen along with my sister. We had a backdoor at our house and it was at the far side of the kitchen. We were both on the couch and I noticed movement. I nudged my sister and she whispers what is that? It must have heard and faded away. We told our dad and he didn't believe us. We grew up and it was forgotten about. Which brings into question few months back there was a topic about hearing things not there. Guess where I heard a small bell? The kitchen. Weird.
I was born when she kissed me. I died when she left me. I lived a few weeks while she loved me-
you can still hear it during late nights on am radio. it's whatever, mcdonalds-grade content. if i don't feel like listening to audiobooks or music while driving home at night i'll sometimes check it out.

i'll never stop chuckling about the time i heard them ranting about how the government puts sodium chloride in the water. for the uninitiated, sodium chloride is salt.

I really liked Phil Hendrie, and caught him at least 3 nights a week. The time slot for him locally was just perfect for me to catch his show often. There's a site somewhere with a lot of his old shows that are downloadable.

I discovered art bell in the late 90s. I still remember what he was talking about when I first tuned in. A guy walking his dog in the Seattle area got attacked by a Bigfoot

I stuck with the show into the George noory era. I always liked ghost episodes the most. And when the guy from Missing 411 was on. Missing 411 was always fascinating to me

Radio brilliance.

I don't want to ruin it.
It might take a sec to figure out what's really going on.

Long story short, he has the worst guests, and when people call in, that's when the magic happens.

Okay I'll have to keep listening. I started it in the order they had them listed. There's one dude that sounds like Art Bell and there are clips in that archive tagged as Art Bell. I'll have to keep listening.

Based on the first caller on this clip (Florida Voter Confusion) I think I know where it's going but I will see...

Imagine a "serious" call in talk show (sometimes the topics are outrageous). Then imagine the host (unknown to the caller) using technology to sound old, young, male, female and "interviewing" himself sounding like another person. At least one character created this way will say something completely outrageous. Other characters will agree. It's all Hendrie, though.

Callers - in good faith - call in to "correct the story" and Hendrie as either himself, or most often, manipulating his voice to sound like his "interviewee", trolls and fucks with the callers for 2 hours. Never anything serious or too political, but stuff like HOAs, weight loss, breast implants, letting neighbors use the toilet, etc. (just off the top of my head).

Takes a few shows to "get" it and figure out which characters are him. Once you realize how he's trolling, it can be hysterical. The callers often got furious and there's bleeps and hangups frequently.

EDIT: As the "impartial host", he's sometimes the most blantantly biased host imaginable. That's part of the gag too, and sometimes sets off the caller by itself. At a quick listen ~ 15 minutes or less, it comes off as a real show though and people called in.

I used to fall asleep to the radio when I was younger, mainly to AM Cleveland sports games and talk shows. Very late at night when they were over C2C would come on and I honestly can't remember much about it but I remember loving the hell out of the song they would usually finish the show with.

Exactly where I thought it was going. The one dude on this clip is insisting that the only reason Jeb Bush is running is because he knows George W will rig the vote for him for a reason. I won't give the reason here but there's going to be all sorts of callers pissed off they said it so i can see what this show is about and it's kinda funny so far.

I've edited my post, but I think you get the gist of my edit. Most of the fun of the show, IMO is being in on the joke and hearing him troll. It's never anything really serious, but people really do lose their shit.

Does George Noory still host?
XBL Gamertag: Rob Thorsman
Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/robertvsilvers
I started listening in mid 2004. Art was still doing shows but it was transitioning to George.

I loved the show as a sleep deprived college and then grad student back then. It was all clearly for whackos but I enjoyed the crazy stories and the callers. Ed Danes is still my favorite classic guest.

I fell out of love with the show not long after Obama was elected. The tenor of the show turned and seemed less, you know, kooky, and and a lot of the guest seemed more dark in tone. Didn't help that George was too nice and wouldn't call out people enough. Art wanted to believe but was not afraid to be critical. George wanted to believe too much.

It also horrifies me how stuff that was OK for late night weirdos to believe 20 years ago has been laundered into the main stream. I remember hearing the anti-vax autism stuff in 2004 on the show and thinking wow, this is nuts who would believe this. Same with the ranting about 3g and high tension wires. Now people believe this material to the point of it impacting the daylight hours.

That's not funny stories at night. That's scary. I can't enjoy the show now.

IMO host power ranking

Art > George Knapp > Ian > George Noory

I haven't listened to the show in a decade or more and I have no idea who hosts now.

Edit again

My favorite moment ever was someone calling on the wild card line and reciting the story of Half Life from the perspective of Gordon. George thought it was real and had the caller stay on for two segments walking through it. It was amazing.

I remember when The Amazing Kreskin was on. He predicted that UFOs would be spotted over Las Vegas, and would donate $50,000 to charity if none were seen. Hundreds of people gathered, and no UFOs were spotted. He later said that it was a fabrication to prove susceptibility post-9/11, and that there some reports of green lights showed up after the news crews left the scene, so he never had to make a donation.

Art Bell outright banned him from the show.
