That makes it better right?

Like, oh fuck yeah, here at the suffering Olympics known as life, if you don't have it the worst, you may as well have it the best! How does it not make you feel better to have your own suffering trivialized? Why does your depression not go away when you see people in horrific conditions around the world?

Is This is not the premier race to the bottom goddamnit?!

No, it isn't. Feel free to vent here, your suffering is not meant to be trivialized or taken away from you in any form.

A lot of people give advice not to help but to make themselves look good

When I was your age, I went through a similar problem but dealt with it much better.

As much of an asshole as I am, schadenfreude is not a good strategy for life.
I actually tell myself this a lot as a coping mechanism or something along those lines. Anything to keep my focus away from the pain because I will fall if I give in. I'm always just holding out but there is no future where it gets better.
My maid will hear about this.
I dated someone like this, was the absolute worst

Minimised all my problems because she'd been through worse, used so much patronising language when we would discuss things that had left me pretty down about life

Just invalidated my depression and issues, full on gatekeeping of trauma because I hadn't been abused or something

Conversations were 90% about her problems. She was basically just trauma dumping by the time we broke up with no giveback
Started from the bottom now we here
