I feel like most families don't pass even if it would be advantageous or even if they feel like they don't know what most of the answers would be, because they'd rather be... well,
playing
the game. It's just more engaging to have multiple opportunities to try to guess all the answers on the board rather than having to stand around watching another group try to do so, and then have just a single opportunity to guess one of the ones they missed.
I don't think it's really the sort of game show that people take super seriously and competitively, despite the name.
