pass to the other family, don't play it.

i feel like it's much easier to guess one answer than to guess all of them. i don't watch the show religiously, but seems like most families win from the other side messing up, not from guessing all the answers on the board.

why don't more families pass?

Stealing isn't THAT easy

One family can clear most of the board and miss one or maybe two obscure answers, the other family has one chance to get an answer that like 3 out of 100 people said and those aren't good odds
Don't ask about Charlemagne.

There's always the chance the other family sweeps the board, and as long as you get the more obvious answers (including the lewd answer if the question opens an opportunity for one), then you should be good more often than not.

I feel like most families don't pass even if it would be advantageous or even if they feel like they don't know what most of the answers would be, because they'd rather be... well, playing the game. It's just more engaging to have multiple opportunities to try to guess all the answers on the board rather than having to stand around watching another group try to do so, and then have just a single opportunity to guess one of the ones they missed.

I don't think it's really the sort of game show that people take super seriously and competitively, despite the name.

You only get one chance to steal, and if the other family already got the obvious answers, it's more likely you will miss. And they win if you miss, anyway.

You never give the ball to the other team. You always play and hope your team can sweep all the answers, at the very least you leave one or two lower tier answers and it makes it tough on the other family to steal with their one opportunity, but you never give them the chance to lead and potentially sweep the board.

If the other family failed three times to find the missing word it's arrogant to assume your family can get it with only one attempt.

Whereas if the answers are easy they might just sweep the board.

I think probably it's smart to take the board when there are only a few, and then pass when it's a large board. Nobody plays like this though.

Well, the numbers are clear. If you think you can clear more than half the answers you should probably play. But, if you dont think you can and more importantly you dont think the opposing team can clear more than half the board then we are in prime steal territory ladies and gentleman. 1400 words later and here we are. I watch a bunch of Family Feud and in my experience the family that passes do not get that one answer right to steal at the end most of the time.
