You have not seen enough shows. Plenty of shows just in the last few years have all been top shelf.

Barry, Ted Lasso, Succession, etc. Plenty of good TV is still being made.

There should be a general strike
Editor's note: The sound of children screaming has been removed.
It does not matter whether or not you like their writing or acting. That is not the point at all. The work they do generates money for these huge ass companies. They should be fairly compensated for that work.

For some writers it's debatable as to if they aren't already paid too much.

What's "too much"? What would you pay for a screenplay?

Whatever SNL writers make is too much for what I guess is "screenplay"

I do, but I don't know how much in solidarity I am if I'm still subbing to streaming services.
...I think I'm done here...
On some issues, yes (streaming venues, stuff like that).
On others, no (use of AI in writing scripts, stuff like that)

Yes, I support fair practices towards employees and artists even if that means inconveniencing my entertainment.

What the companies tried proposing to the SAG was just completely out of touch

"So what we're gonna do is pay background actors for 1 day of work, make an AI model of them that we own, and then never hire them again because we'll own an AI model of their likeness. This is actually a way of protecting their identity!"

Like, how fucking greedy do you have to be.

Feels like this will be a non-issue soon, when the companies decide "hey, let's just model background people from the ground up". Probably not practical now, but, in a few years?

Well that's on them and I would be there's already movies with totally fake people in the background who never existed.

For now, they're trying to fuck over actors with a laughably flimsy excuse.

It's actually much worse. The purpose of that proposal is to destroy the union by removing a large group of members (the background actors) from the union by preventing them from meeting the income threshold for healthcare through the union.
Support worker rights. Video game developers also need to unionize.
People always asking if I am for the strike. My question is, why should I be against it?
The entire planet should be all for workers rights and better pay altogether.

Yes. Even though I think most writers already make a lot for their garbage writing, the administrative leeches in Hollywood make way too much money and the excess money they gain would better suit the workers.

The strike also will hopefully inspire more workers to consider striking (and frankly there are ton of workers that have it much worse than writers and actors).

And scummy publishers like Activision who employ union busting strategies need to suffer genuine consequences for a change.

Yall do realize a big reason the writing has been garbage is because the bosses have influenced it to be so right? So few original ideas because the bosses would rather take risk averse approaches like prequel, sequel, remakes etc or mine IPs that people love

This. Execs mandate what goes into the final product. Sometimes the writing is simply bad at its core, but its not fair to assume thats always the case.

Yeah, but at the price tag of about $100 million for an average film (I'm seeing $50 million to $150million being mentioned from various sources), I can see why studios are becoming more adverse to risks.

Same thing happening with video games, although thankfully we still have indie companies for more experimental (if much much lower budgeted) games being released to the mass.

Im pretty sure the words "somehow Palpatine returned" were the result of frustration of having the big wigs telling you how the story's gonna go. Most of them are pretty capable, but they write for the intended audience. Kinda like classically trained musicians working for pop artist cause it pays the bills.

You betcha.
The food here is terrible. My steak was so tough it attacked my coffee and the coffee was too weak to defend itself.

This is why fanfiction has so much potential. Zero barrier to entry (which works against it as well as for it) and no overhead meaning you can write what you want. Its just a shame that potential isnt often realised.

They should correct the pay formula for streaming platforms but other than that everyone has had a two year vacation. Not time for raises, but we can talk about fairness. Push on everything else.

I got bigger union problems than these fucking guys anyway.

Yes another reason is because they are writing for the audience, and the audience has been dumbed down so much in recent years. We are as much to blame as the studio heads

The vast majority of the strikers are just regular people truly to get fairly compensated and be able to pay their bills. They haven't been on a two year vacation.

Even if I cared more about movies/TV shows in general and it seriously affected availability of stuff I cared about, I'd still support them because of Bob Iger's dumb mother fucking comments about Hollywood not being able to afford paying them more.

Like give me a fucking break. How goddamned dumb do you think we are?
The name is wackyteen for a reason. Never doubt.
Yes.

I do mean it when I say every person so far I've seen who actively doesn't support it is either an AI grifter, or an alt-right wackjob who can't go two sentences without whining about jews (which of course they think every actor who has ever existed is.).
