When did "no customization" and "linear" start meaning "interactive movie"?
People complain about every open-world game that isn't Elden Ring, but don't want linear games either.
i just call any game that relies heavily on dialogue and cutscenes for its storytelling to be an interactive movie. I much prefer game's stories to be told through things you find in the environment like pc terminals (may include text/audio/or video log files), notes , and carefully placed objects that allow players to infer what happened. Many low-budget adventures (most of them are very linear games) do this type of storytelling well.
I've never had the patience to sit through cinematics in games tbh altho I have no problems with watching a movie. Idk why
