Wonder if it's any good

I heard they made it far too rogue-likey
He was born in a coop, raised in a cage, children fear him, critics rage,
He's half alive, he's half dead, folks just call him Buckethead
It's okay. The first was better.

My FC is in my profile.
Well it was in Early Access for like a year or more so there's probably someone on CE who's tried it already. All I know is the graphical change and it's more of a roguelike now than Dungeon Crawler-y.

You mind dropping a quick recap or link to summary? I'm interested as to what is changed in the basic loop.

I'm generally anti rogue-like elements without good reason, I really enjoyed og DD because I felt it all had good reason to function the way it does, at least tonally for the setting if not mechanically.
move all remaining groundhog mercenaries to the front lines. Have sheep troopers squadrons A and B flank the cows. They're using DC-17 hoof blasters.

Maybe this will do?

Not sure, I only briefly heard a friend of mine talking (and, complaining a bit) about it

Why no console release? :(

Never a fan of the Rogue genre.
Once you lose your integrity, everything comes easy afterwards.
looks great but I'm waiting for the mods honestly
If you read this signature, then that meant that I had control of what you read for 5 SECONDS!!

long story short, long term progression is pretty much just skills and a personality type selection each run.

No more building up the Hamlet or managing multiple teams. Artifacts and equipment are run specific so no farming them.

Gameplay boils down to 4 areas with a final boss at the end (with the requirement to beat 1 of the 4 bosses in those areas to gain access to the final boss area).

Its alright, the first was miles better imo but the new class is pretty great and its still fun to run through it every couple months. Since its so standalone now though not much reason to play multiple sessions close together aside from farming unlocks for future runs.

NOTE:
this is all from early access experience so with the full 5 chapters unlocked (instead of just the 1st) Im guessing theres a lot I havent seen yet.

worth the price point IMO even with the flaws early access had.

Oh man I didn't know the core game was so radically different

I don't know if I like the new style so I think I might wait for a sale

I love games like this, but the first one didn't click with me. I didn't give it much of a chance and was addicted to Slay the Spire at the time also, maybe i'll give it another go.
"They speak of progress, in red, white and blue. It's the structure of the future as demise comes seething through."
It's more roguelike than the first one. It also feels like it's designed to appeal to the people that were turned off by the persistent town and the grindiness of the original (macro mistakes can fuck you over, and the game was more mathy). Don't get me wrong this game is bullshit in different ways than 1 was, and I am not sure how much control you have over stuff like relationships and brakedowns (if you can't adequately scout paths which seems difficult from the get-go).There are persistent upgrades you can get between runs and the game is supposed to get easier in some way if you lose multiple runs in a row

The first game would just piss me off

and combatting the darkness and stress was so damn. . .stressful

The relationship system is interesting, at least until you have a character that spirals out of control with stress in a single encounter and the resulting meltdown has everyone pissed at them. Having a characters form grudges with each other is very not good.

Also losing a member is also not very good for your chances of survival, because you can only recruit new ones at inns (or so I've heard)

I now know why people complained so much about Darkest Dungeon 2s relationship system. I had a group of adventurers all buddy buddy with each other, but a single encounter spiraled out of control, they all had successive meltdowns, and all of a sudden 2 people who are now just neutral with each other gained the distrustful relationship Suspicious, where the front liners crucial attack marks the backliner for attack now. Im so fucked.

It just reinforces the death spiral when things go wrong
