Twitters new "verification" system only verifies that you paid for a service you can access for free. It's completely useless. What it used to represent was a legitimate account belonging to a notable person or legitimate news source, and now it's completely pointless as there's just a sea of blue checkmarks belonging to complete unknowns. It's actively made the site worse.

you cant see how many followers someone has unless you actually click on their profile. Most people arent gonna verify every post they see(thats twitters job), theyre just going to see the blue check and assume its really the famous person in question
