why is everyone picking violet and getting the fire type starter?

The fire starter is the only one that actually looks like a Pokemon to me, in that I can't actually tell on appearance what it's supposed to be. We have had so many blatant "cat" and "duck" Pokemon already that I'm honestly sick of all of them.
