I thought fire and lightning mages are bad, since those are strength and skill focused elements. It's high magic you want, isn't it? And water gives magic bonuses.
Sorry I wasn't clear. The second tier of mages are categorized as Fire, Ice, and Lightning mages. These dictate their attack patterns.
Earlier I was using elements in place of affinities. Their affinity dictates their stats. The element they become has no relation to their affinity and is selectable on upgrade.
Ice uses a diamond pattern around a single target. Lighting attacks a column. Fire attacks a row.
