I have some cash in my steam wallet and I'm interested. How is it?

It's not Phoenix Wright since he's not even in the game.

It's fun but not one of the better entries

I am still damn early in the first game (been playing other things mostly), but the general opinion I see online is the 1st game is okay, and the 2nd game of the two is one of the better games in the series.

No clue if I agree with it or not yet as I'm still early.
Welcome home, shed your skin and expose your bones.
Take my hand, follow us into the black so far that we can't get back.
First one was fun. It has an overarching plot, much like the Investigations games.
Haven't played the second.

Ace Attorney or whatever. I figured people knew what I was referring to

The game has charming characters but a lot of really questionable plot decisions. It also has two new gimmicks, one which is pretty decent (jury summation examination) and another that is the worst Ace Attorney gimmick since Apollo's bracelet (course correction)

I'm part way through the 4th case, it seems pretty decent so far. They could've done way more effort making Susato not just feel like budget Maya though.
To Trumble, or not to Trumble, that is the question.

I feel the exact opposite way about the new gimmicks lol.

How the fuck do you have Pearl and Ema ranked that high. Ema was only an assistant for one case and Pearl wasn't even an assistant for half of one.

By course correction you don't mean the Sherlock deduction stuff right? That's the best part

Pearl assists in 2-2, 2-4, and IIRC some of 3-5
I thought it was great. It's very much not two separate games but a complete two-game-long story. To that end, the first five cases can feel a bit underwhelming, but the latter five crank things up incredibly. Both new mechanics are great, I find, and I love the characters.

Yes I do. That gimmick is actually garbage. Sitting through 5 years of dialogue so you can pick from 3 options

It doesn't make you think like the emotion necklace gimmick or the vision gimmick from Dual Destinies or Spirit of Justice. It's about as deep as a puddle and just makes you want to mash A through Sholmes' neverending deduction

Sherlock is hot but it really irritates me that he literally roommates with a loli. WTF is wrong with the writer

Sounds like you don't like the characters :(

Are you on case 5? Because it pretty much explains why early on which makes it less weird

Confession: I only played up to case 4 of the fan translation and haven't bought the new release yet
And I like the characters, I just think the deduction sequence takes forever

And yeah, I forgot about Pearl's role in JFA. Shows how much I liked that game

Not every little girl character is a loli.

The hell? Kay is the best. Ema is good though.

ITP: Parental figures not related by blood don't exist.
Great Ace is comparable to and depending on how the rest of 2 goes better than the original trilogy

I think my least favorite case so far was 1-4 because I hated most of the characters in it lol.

Ok that's a lot better than I thought
Oh and the localization is fantastic. Every character has such a distinct voice through the text.

I'm only on the third case of 2, but so far:

The two games are definitely intended to be a sort of package deal. The first game sets up a lot of plot threads and foreshadowing for what's to come, and the second game largely follows up on all of these. It's a bit like a lighter version of Higurashi and Umineko with their Question and Answer arcs.

If you played Layton vs. Wright, these games almost feel like a more Phoenix Wright-ified follow-up to that. Aside from puzzles obviously, many gameplay mechanics were carried over from there and a lot of the character design feels like it would be right at home in a Layton game. Not to mention the whole British thing too, of course.

In many ways it feels, tonally, like Phoenix Wright 1 and 3 bundled together. You can definitely tell it's the same style of writing as those games too and doesn't have *as many* contrivances and general aping of the originals as the newer Phoenix Wright games directed by the B team have.
Dance of Deduction is a better mini game than any of the Danganronpa mini games.

I say better as in it doesnt break up the story or last long.

The last thing I want to do while in the middle of an intense scene is to play a mini game.
