Detectives do the followup. You see the patrol cops because they're out and about.. patrolling. If a patrol cop's case needs followup the detective handles it. They're usually calling people and setting up interviews with witnesses and stuff. Not as much field work.

i mean, in all fairness it was my car. nothing could really be done about it. i just didnt have my full license and took it. some ballyhoo took place, and a nice detective came to "rap" with me one-on-one about it. i denied it, and i was eventually charged with...nothing.
