My one big complaint with Halo 1 is the level design.

The levels are too long and samey, I swear I just did the same room about 8 fucking times.

Halo 1 legit has one of the few levels I've ever actually gotten "lost" in and somehow walked all the way to the beginning.

It's that one where you go into like a tower on a beach I think.

I really am not into FPS games so I thought it was me but I had that exact problem with Halo 1
But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.
Oh god I'm only one level away from Library and I'm already getting flashbacks.

Also the level in the Covenant ship = Hey you know how you just did the level... Well now do half of it in reverse because why the fuck not.

IIRC some areas were straight up copy-pasted due to time constraints, slightly altered visually, and in the case of The Maw, I think 90% of the level before the Warthog run is the same section of Pillar of Autumn from the first level in reverse.

Assault on the Control Room is basically reversed in parts later on, and the Covenant ship Truth and Reconciliation is raided twice, once to rescue Keyes, then to claim his neural implant.

it's pretty awful. go play classic Doom and you'll see how level design can be good

The first six missions make up for it. Even then, I don't totally dislike any of the final four missions. The Library is dull but I can live with it. Keyes was a bitch on Legendary, but I didn't necessarily hate it.

Two Betrayals is great though despite being just Assault on the Control Room backwards. I get why many wouldn't like it though. Assault on the Control Room itself has repetitive indoor sections, but the outdoor sections are excellent enough that it's still considered one of the best levels in the entire series. Rocket Flood are also pretty damn awful.

I think The Maw is very good as well.

Assault on the Control Room has you going through the same room about 8 times so no it does not make up for it and neither does the going through the Covanent ship in reverse after thinking you beat it.

Halo 1, Goldeneye, first Doom are the most fun Ive ever had with FPS.
Do you mean the level Keyes or the part in Truth and Reconciliation when you have to escort Keyes off the ship? Because you don't backtrack through half the ship during that part. You go through like less than a quarter of it.

You still backtrack and yea it's after you find Keys.

I think the level design being so samey is pretty much the main reason while I'll never beat the game on Legendary a second time. I might play it again on Heroic, but fuck going through the same shit over and over again every time I die.

You backtrack to the bridge, a few hallways, and then back to the hangar. That's barely anything.

True compared to doing the same room about 8 times later on and of course Library. Either way the level design is still terrible.

The first two Halo campaigns aren't really worth doing on Legendary more than once. Halo: CE is fair (aside from Rocket Flood), but it's just generally difficult and can be a slog. Halo 2 is just plain unfair most of the time.

Every campaign after that is fun on Legendary though. Halo 3 especially.

Yeah, this. It's only a small section of the ship you replay, most of that level is fought on the ground with the Covenant and Flood fighting for control of the ship

Nah he's talking about Truth and Reconciliation. The third level where you rescue Captain Keyes. There are no Flood yet.

Still for the level Keyes I'd say it's pretty evenly split between fighting on the ship and fighting on the ground.
