In Spanish speaking countries they tend to refer to all of the Americas as "America" and all people from North and South America as "Americans".

There's a special word just for people from the USA specifically.

So it depends on your language/culture.

Technically yes, any citizen of a country in North or South America is an American. However, the common usage of American almost exclusively refers to a citizen of the United States. Since thats how the term is used 99.9% of the time, Im going with no.
