ban all accounts with less than 2000 karma and call it a day
It's something that they've been laughably terrible at and haven't even paid lip service to. The main problem is that they need to stop treating the usermap like it's state secrets. It doesn't necessarily have to be that connected accounts are listed on a user page, but if you ignore or tag on account on a map, it should apply to all accounts. It's part of the reason i don't use the former feature at all; it's pointless to ignore the kind of user that's actually worth ignoring since it's also the kind of user with countless alts. In addition, any punishment that's a warning or worse needs to apply to all accounts on a usermap. as it stands, really the only users that actually get punished are the ones who don't get banned enough that it's worth making a bunch of alts. of course, there would still be ways around it, but the answer certainly isn't "so just do nothing"
Every account here except for guwa is an alt account of guwa.
We're surrounding you. We see you, but you probably don't see us. And if you see us, we're not letting on that we see you.

I don't see one good reason for anyone to have an alt account. It's shifty as fuck, and I don't like it.

How could that be? guwa is partying at my house right now.

ignoring usermaps on the whole is a great suggestion

if you don't make evading punishments against the rules, punishing people actually becomes counterproductive. Because now the userbase has to waste time learning which new masks are attached to humans they're already ignoring (actively or passively).
Boom! That's right, this is all happening! You cannot change the channel now!
Act now! Venchmen are standing by for your orders!
Would have to be the admins, I would think.
They would have to be able to consistently and accurately identify people that abusive alts.

Id just like topics and posts that are obviously trolling to be locked/deleted quickly. The handful of users here who continuously abuse alts are almost exclusively using them for trolling purposes, so taking care of that would help matters.

Id additionally like to see the karma requirement for CE raised, but I think that idea has been brought up and shot down before.

More like no more three day old shitposting alts, as is the case with most of Hothlins new alts when they show up here.

I think at this point CE is kind of place where you expect that sort of thing to go on daily, and you either deal with it or don't post here. I think the karma requirement to post on CE should be raised, and I agree with the basis of this thread, but in the long run it's an unrealistic expectation to keep track of overall, considering how loose the rules are enforced to begin with.

That's actually a simple solution.
I'm for it.

I really don't see any real argument against raising the karma requirement.

Any time somebody with a low amount of karma posts, people just ask whose alt it is. This board rarely attracts new members, and almost all of the low karma posters are just alts of warned/banned users, many of them freely admitting or heavily implying (Hoth) that they are.

Good luck with raising the karma limit for CE. Allen outright said he has no plans for it.

A karma limit raise didn't really help 261, and it wouldn't help CE. The trolls who know how to avoid having all their accounts on one usermap would tell the other trolls how to avoid getting their alts banned. Instead of being rid of the trolls we'd have them in every topic toeing the line and destroying entire discussion threads by being disingenuous or obtuse.
This. It's a really dumb and annoying problem but there's no obvious fix. A karma raise would help but it's just a case of 'you put one in the hospital, they put one in the morgue' escalation. Perhaps having a few mods manually go through some of the most notorious (they must surely know who they are) and put some clear guidelines in to let them ban alts used for stupid, trolly crap.
