I had a Dreamcast, but never played Shenmue.

They acted like it would be all open and then it was linear as fuck. I did love the QTE stuff since that was a new thing.
I'd say it's pretty dated now. I tried playing it recently, for the first time

I'll take a point off for the battle controls, but even they are something you can get pretty good at. Maybe not "master Arm Break Fire" good, but still pretty decent. For a game with tons of QTEs and lots of question-asking, it's a ton of fun. Definitely play Shenmue 2 if you get the chance.

Incredible game. It's a bit slow at times and it's not for everyone. But for those that can stomach it, it's one of the best adventure games I have ever played and the world is still one of the best that I have ever seen. Everyone, including NPCs, have their own schedules and do their own things and there is something new to see every playthrough. There aren't too many worlds in video games that feel alive as much as the one in Shenmue 1 does, not even Shenmue 2.

Shame most people who missed out on it won't give it chance because they were told by Giant Bomb to not play it.
Rollercoaster Tycoon is better than FF6 and Earthbound?....I don't want to live on this planet anymore

This. The attention to detail has always blown me away. One of the few times I actually felt like I was walking around a living, breathing town/city.

Also got addicted to those damn capsule toys. lol

JRPGs aren't for everyone, while RCT can be enjoyed by almost any demographic of gamer. I agree with you that Earthbound is better, but RCT is deserving enough of its #1 spot imo.

would be 10/10 if it wasn't for the stupid Forklift missions. Like I need to play Material Handler in a video game of all places.

I feel like Yakuza series is the spiritual sequel to Shenmue.

Agreed but with Yakuza's fighting leaning more on the arcadey side. Currently playing my first Yakuza game(Kiwami) and I'm getting those heavy Shenmue vibes.
