Well, what do you think?

Like, imagine you're reading a book, and a new character comes in and one of her description lines is something like "she had breasts that would make a basketball look like a pebble", BUT, her boobs aren't referenced or maybe only mentioned one or two times in the entire book, and outside a sexual context.

Would you think that's sexualization?.

Tbh I don't know how to feel about this. Like, if the narrative doesn't do anything with her boobs, then I don't see what's so harmful about having a character with big boobs. But in the other look, girls on average don't have big boobs, so adding them to a girl can be considered pandering to horny people.

To me, big boobs are just like green hair or red eyes (except big boobs can actually happen irl but that's beside the point)

It's supposed to be HitTheGroundWalking.
it's weird and kinda off-putting to read narratives that fixate on women's breasts (looking at you, Stephen King)

True.

Well gotta live with my mistake now

Big boobs get me more invested in a character.

really? even something like "Martha unfastened her coat, revealing her swollen chest" and then never ever mentioning her boobs again?

I would read "swollen chest" as though the person had some sort of illness, so that's a different thing entirely

Well, true. I only said that because I remember reading that in one of the Overlord volumes when describing Shalltear.

But well then, change "swollen chest" to something like "soccer ball sized chest" or something like that.

Would you still feel uncomfortable?

I voted no, but then I realized that it kinda does. Though the distinction is that sexualized is not necessarily a bad thing, and there are ways to make sexualized characters still be tasteful. I guess I took the question as asking if making a character have large breasts is sexist and immediately voted no, as a twitch reaction to browsing the XBC2 boards for a while.

If an author wrote a description like that, chances are the story would already be sexual in nature. (I'm half-tempted to Google it to see if it's lifted directly from a literotica story.)

To answer the basic question, I'd say no. It is sexualizing a character to focus on a woman's breasts, at least for the moment, but that doesn't mean that a character can't move on from that or offer more in the long run. Look at the male equivalent. Here's a good looking, hard bodied male stepping out of a pool or stepping out of a shower. That's sexualization. But it doesn't mean that we view that character like he's a sex object. There's no reason to have a double standard with regards to female characters.
No. But I think men's attraction to larger breasts will result in them being more sexualized second hand (fan art, etc).

I think of characters like Tifa Lockhart, who isn't particularly sexualized in the media she appears in. Yes, she is busty and she dresses in a short skirt and tank top, but at no point in the game is she really depicted in a sexual manner. Unless you count something like her night with Cloud under the Highwind, but that wasn't explicit at all.
No, some people just have large, attractive breasts.
When your reputation is ruined you can live quite freely.
Low Price Revolution
No. It can be done tastefully without drawing focus to their sexuality.

That being said, it's pretty rare that a female character's assets are a point of conversation without it being a blatant grab for fan's junk.

If it's not using live-action then yeah, you can't exactly say "she's just big-breasted by chance". She was made that way.

It's rare but I like it when having big breasts is actually a distinct attribute that plays into a character that also get acknowledged by other characters. Kind of like Powergirl.
