Is it white privilege to have MLK day off while a black person may have to work?

A white person on MLK day has the day off. He sleeps in late, then decides to go out for gambling and dinner. A black person is his blackjack dealer and his waiter at the restaurant is also black. Is this, or should it be, an example of white privilege?

Maybe those two black people could have gotten the day off if they really wanted it. Do you think it bothers them they are not off? There are plenty of black people who will get the day off and white people who will be working. So is it just simply the way the cookie crumbles?

What are CE's thoughts?

What if they're not celebrating it---just have the day off because where they work everyone has the day off on MLK day?

Normal people don't get mlk day off work. Just because you get the day off school that day doesn't mean adults do

No. It's not. If it works both ways exactly the same then no one is privileged cause of race.
There will always be exceptions.

Yes, librarians get the day off as does any job that is government funded like public schools. Again, the average person doesn't get the day off, it's literally just another day because nobody cares about MLK day. If it was as big as Christmas, Easter or Thanksgiving that would probably change but as it is, the average person shows up to work as usual. They don't even get holiday time and a half!

Like..... most non-deployed military members and federal employees get the day off.
