Does this robot intimidate you?

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty To Animals say this Security Robot in San Francisco, dubbed K9 is being hired to to SHOO AWAY HOMELESS PEOPLE from outside smart office buildings!!

It will patrol the streets because of the growing amounts of crime related to homeless people on sidewalks...despite the fact that they are being warned by officials they will be fined $1000 a day if they continue to use it!

They hired this futuristic robot to work outside the officie as it was designed by Knightscope that weighs 400lbs and is 1.5m tall.

Jennifer Scarlett said "We weren't able to use the sidewalks at all when there's needles and tents and bikes so from a walking standpoint, i find the robot much easier to navigate than an encampment"

However in a week its clashed with locals as people put BBQ all over it or put a tarp over it so it can't see..

It's rented for as little as 7 dollars an hour, far less than the minimum wage of 14 an hour in California

It's a crime fighting robot that relies on cameras, lidar-thermal imaging to navigate

Laser scanning can detect changese in an environment while odour detectors sense other changes and monitor air pollution.

Does this robot intimidate you?

this is how it starts
It'll only work if the robot will provide people with cab fare

That's pretty sick. I hope to read a story about one of these things being found dismantled in a dumpster.

You want rid of homeless people, pay living wages.
If ever I become homeless on the streets of San Francisco, I'll roll one of those fuckers in to the bay.
I feel like we shouldn't have built Daleks

What is this, Towa City?
You have illegally begged on private property. You have 20 seconds to remove yourself.
Don't tease the octopus, kids!
The robot will go on a rampage after the homeless piss on it, and try to have sex with it.

I don't see how it would make anyone leave. Does it just get in your face? Maybe plays annoying music? What are its tactics?

WASHINGTON An autonomous robot given the task of guarding a mall and office complex apparently chose to end it all by drowning itself in a water fountain.

I think I read they upped minimum wage to 14 bucks there. robot costs 7 a hour to rent. guess which the company chose between a security officer and a robot. i'm all for people getting paid livable wages but simply raising minimum wage isn't enough gotta find a way to make sure greedy company owners can't find other ways around it. like this.

I thought that at first too, but I think it means the city officials are warning the company it will fine them 1000 bucks a day for using the robot to run off the homeless.

It's pretty surreal to imagine the resources that went into developing a robot meant to harass the homeless.
Who is? I am!
Why does that robot need to get paid $7 an hour?
He's totally getting thrown into a river.
"message parlor" ? do you mean the post office ? - SlayerX888
14 an hour is a livable wage and homeless people do not have the right to take over a sidewalk and do trashy shit in front of people's businesses. i believe in ubi but homeless people usually have mental problems and wouldn't function in society no matter how much money they have
I am thinking about just walking into the river now that Megaupload is gone and condoms are in porn .-Fubonis

hey he works 24 hours a day, he should be getting way more than that!
Should get one like the house robots on Robot Wars. That'd get people moving. (I don't actually support this, or bodily harm to homeless people mind)

The one they are using just seems like it'd get vandalised pretty quickly tbh >.>
Isn't that the robot from Superjail?

Harassing homeless people is just wrong, I hope this thing gets destroyed by the people it is bothering cause this is not a good thing.

Oh well.
Back to sidewalk spikes, I guess...

Passive hostile architecture is vastly more effective at vagrant deterrence than a robot that can be beaten with a rock and scavenged for copper.

I'd say about 8 seconds until an angry drunk pisses on the thing hand sends it all haywire.
