If it was going to be done I think it would need to come down to local government to decide the exact amount, even if there's a federal minimum in the way that minimum wage is. The cost of living varies too widely across the country to give a single figure imo. And it should be calculated to an appropriate rate for the bare essentials.

I'd be fine with 1K a month. It's enough for a lot of poorer people to survive on, while at the same time giving them incentive to get a job as well.


Heck, if I got $1300 a month, after taxes, I'd be set.

Exactly the individual poverty line would be ideal, but there's a good chance a runaway effect would quickly follow.

well, whatever it is, its gotta be so that you get more "free" money from the govt then you would working at mcdonalds, walmart, sears, wendys, the mall, coffee shops and ihops

more then they would earn 55 hours a week at minimum wage with no overtime to give those who are still working a real sense of purpose.
