Which city's traffic sucks more?

I've never been to LA but New York traffic is unbearably bad. Has anyone here been to both cities that can vouch for one over the other?
LA and it's not even close.
Chicago is bad too

LA and Chicago are worse than NYC by a large mile. Vegas drivers scare the fuck out of me as a pedestrian walking the strip. But the flow of traffic didn't seem that bad.

Is Chicago that bad? I haven't been there either. Philly has horrific traffic but no where near as bad as New York.

The last time I went to LA, I was sitting in traffic on the highway for 4 hours to get somewhere that should've only been a half hour drive.
My wife (a native Californian) tells me that LA traffic is the worst, so I'll go with that. At least you can walk just about everywhere in NY if the traffic is truly shit, or take the subway for that matter.

I never knew Chicago was that bad. I know what you mean about Vegas drivers.... their taxi drivers are lunatics.
I went to LA once and I was stuck in traffic for about an hour and a half, and it was at 3 am.

LA has earthquakes all the time and some people there live in fear of a big earthquake hitting them someday so it makes sense that they wouldn't have a subway.
at least NYC is walkable and has a mass transit system that doesn't suck

i have lived in california for 25 years and have never felt an earthquake. no one is scared of earthquakes, damaging ones happen once every century and even then our architecture is far more modern than anywhere else in the world (especially with dealing with earthquakes)

New York is worse. LA has more cars but they deal with it more efficiently. New York is a mess.

My pint was just that you guys have a lot of earthquakes. It would be dangerous to have a subway system in an area that constantly had earthquakes because a bigger one could happen at any time and it could hurt a lot of people if they were underground

LA does have a subway system...

i think alot of people severely underestimate just how large LA is

it's like a never ending city, it's 503 mi ^2 compared to about 300 of NY and it keeps growing....

certain parts of LA have bad traffic, other parts do not. most it's terrible, but i've truly never seen anything worse than NY traffic in my life (although i only saw the bustling parts of NY)

Los Angeles has the worst urban sprawl out of any city in the United States. Coincidentally it also creates the worst smog.

NYC's sprawl is tiny in comparison.

NYC traffic isn't that bad unless you are trying to go through one of the bottlenecks around the city (GWB, lincoln tunnel, etc) during a high traffic period (weekend, holiday).

LA traffic is the worst ive ever seen in my life, it took me 3 hours to go 20 miles there
