A county judge dismissed the case, but Donna is still pursuing an appeal as she won't let this go.

she has a tat that just says, "words"?

Sounds like religious discrimination, which too my knowledge violates the Civil Rights Act. Donna should win and the bigot judge should be sacked.

Religious discrimination because a student didn't like their grade or the teacher's curriculum? If that was actionable, the entirety of middle school would be embroiled in lengthy court battles for most of their school careers.

She's 59 and paid for an education, not an indoctrination. I don't see how it's any different than flunking someone for being Jewish.

Colleges are already required to follow the Civil Rights Act.

No, I mean, read the article. She's not claiming that it's a religious issue. Even if she was, she'd have to prove it and that would be difficult to do.
Not fair at all. Sounds like the professor had a BS, agenda driven curriculum. Does Donna deserve an A? Probably not and her poetry probably sucks. But so does the curriculum so...
Who are you to determine that it is or isn't of a lower quality than the rest of the class' work?

The Civil Rights Act had nothing to do with classroom curriculum. She's not entitled to attend the classroom and have a specialized assignment that disincludes any mention of LGBT issues just because she identifies as a Christian.

She is entitled to equal treatment, which means the school can't discriminate against her for her religious beliefs.
She wanted to study classic poetry in the course but got a different syllabus than she expected.
I just want to see this old ladies work tbh. I have a hard time imagining it was any good nor that it was worthy of an F. Though I also have a hard time imagining someone seeing the syllabus on the first day, not liking the content, and then proceeding to take the course and just complain.
This story is full of crap I don't understand. The instructor does kind of sound like an annoying left winger, but the old lady also sounds like an annoying right winger.
I mean, how do you fail this type of class unless you just didn't turn your work in? Or your work would have to be complete and utter crap. Critiquing writing is a somewhat subjective thing and you could argue for the difference between an A and a B, but outright failing someone? Like WTF.
The instructor has the right to influence the course material to a significant degree and the old lady has the right to take or not take the class.
My gut tells me the instructor had crappy content for her course, but the old lady is way more dumb for a much longer list of reasons.

I have a feeling that she just flat out didn't do the assignments.

She's given the same coursework as everyone else. What you're advocating for is the exact opposite of equal treatment.

If she was given an F because of the content of her work, rather than the quality, then she was discriminated against. Given how biased professors are, it's easy to see why it could be the former.

You honestly think this is more likely than her just being a shit student?
I like the part where this 59-year-old poetry student considers herself to be representative of mainstream college students
She a 59 year old woman she's from a different era. So it's easy as to why she would find the whole lgbt repulsive and wrong. Was she's wrong sure but the teacher here is also wrong grading students based on her personal feelings on lgbt are all the colleges like this now a day? SJW running the place now?
