Phoenix Ikki's Genma Ken translates into Demon Fist but I saw an english dub by chinese people that translated it as Genie Fist.
So I think there is probably some engrish involved in arriving at the Genie translation that involves running it through Chinese first. Majin is probably closer to demon than it is to genie, but most likely it's referring to some kind of yokai concept that the west doesn't really have, kind of like how people like Odin and Thor are erroneously referred to as Gods when they're actually Aesir. God is just the closest english equivalent.
