i care about mma and wrestling for different reasons.
mma intrigues me not just because it's unscripted, but because match-ups actually matter. in wrestling, it doesn't matter if one wrestler is a striker and another is a high-flier, because the people backstage never work in style when it comes to determining the winner of a match. in mma, you get to see strikers face wrestlers face submission fighters face kickboxers face muay thai fighters and it's fun to see the various different styles of fighters go at it.
but because what happens in wrestling comes down to one person deciding backstage, it makes it incredibly unpredictable. a result can make 100%, clear-cut, perfect sense, but then not happen just because vince decided he wanted to surprise people. you can predict the outcomes of mma, football, basketball, or any other sport contest rather consistently if you know about the sport, but there's no predicting what happens in pro wrestling. it's hidden chaos.
