I don't but I've discussed this with other people before. There seem to be quite a few that think that while you don't need to tip as much as you would for delivery, you should still tip them something because they're putting your order in the bag and ringing it up for you.

Never. I tip delivery and sit down but not carryout. The whole reason I drove to pick it up and not eat inside is so I don't have to tip. I mean, people don't tip fast food pickup or drive-thru so why would it be different at other places?

No way. If I'm actually going to the store to pick it up then no.

Actually edit: Only if you like the person cashing you out or (s)he did something else to help you out like throw in some freebies or something

It's no different from buying an item at a store. They don't deserve a gratuity for cashing me out.
I love funposting.
I tip less. Just because I feel obligated to but I didn't have anyone serve me or deliver to me.
I also wonder about tipping food trucks since those are generally owned and operated by the same person.

Nope. I don't see why someone would

If I pay cash, sometimes I'll throw some change into the tip jar, but yeah, if I'm having take out, it's to save on delivery + tip, that would sorta defeat the purpose to tip them.
PONG WAS REAL? I thought that was just a story parents told kids to scare them
Wow, Americans are badly whipped when it comes to tipping.
You are now breathing manually.

I hate tipping but it's the knowledge that they shirk that responsibility to the customer by low-balling the pay for the servers so you have little recourse. You basically can't protest because you're not protesting the restaurant by not tipping, just cheating the server out of money.

There's no obligation but I usually tip anyway as an extra layer of security from poison and/or spit in the food on subsequent visits.

So how long before we're tipping cashiers because "if you don't want to tip, use a u-scan."?

I don't tip the staff, I always give cash to drivers.

They're the ones giving me the service beyond the cooking of the food (Which is covered by the price)

and it's lower than restaurant, i stick it near 10%

It depends on the order.

If you order 200$ food and have them carry it to your car when it's pouring outside you better fucking give them a tip.

On the other end If you order a small fry to go tipping would feel silly.

I thought you meant like, at a grocery store if they bring the groceries to your car. Obviously if you order pizza and literally drive to the store to pick it up you don't tip, what the hell.

You never tip for carry out, the whole point of tipping is if your at a sit down being waited on, or they deliver it to you.

Do you tip when you get subway or some other fast food joint? No? Why do it for a carryout? The only difference is you placed the order in advance rather than in person to save time.
