i did it back in january. refunded. paid back some credit card balances i made on my recent move.

Yes. For some reason, I always seem to owe money on federal taxes and get a refund on state taxes.

I broken even by owing state 8 and receiving 8 from federal ._.

for this year, i kinda wanna say to pay no taxes and just set aside 15-20% of my paycheck every month into a high interest savings account. then when tax season comes, pay the government what they owe with a rewards credit card for points, and then use the money i set aside to pay the card.
