The stereotype being that they'll eat anything. Usually found in old cartoons.
Pigs kind of fell into that stereotype too.

Cats: Milk
Ducks: Bread
Parrots: Crackers
Deer: all my flowers
Fish: microplastics & mercury

The funny thing with the cheese stereotype is that cheese is actually bad for mice. If you've got a pet mouse you shouldn't feed it to them, because it causes them to overheat, and they can theoretically die from eating too much of it.

Yeah, it's been a thing longer than most of us have been alive. Like Salrite mentioned, you'll see it in a lot of older cartoons.

You'll also see things like goats eating people's clothes right off of them.

It's too bad you can't find the whole cartoon on YouTube.

I have a goat that would eat the foam insulation underneath the vinyl siding. And a few times that I've needed to keep a goat inside one of them would gnaw on the drywall, though I think that was because they didn't have a salt lick.

They also occasionally nibble at my clothing. They don't actually eat it, I think it's more that they're trying to figure out if they can eat it.

Common sense says it may not taste good, but it'll make a turd.

Anteaters: ants

(While they do eat ants, they more often eat termites.)

Obviously they can't eat metal, but they do sometimes eat the labels and the glue off of cans.

Fun fact: Goats, like most ruminants and camelids, do not have upper incisors. Instead they have a hard dental pad.

In all serious, my wife's cousin had a dog that would eat cat food cans. Somehow, it never hurt the dog.

I've never seen a dog eating a dog, nor is dog food made of dogs. Fish food however is made of fish and fish are constantly eating other fish

So a fish-eats-fish works is more applicable.
